Ok, so according to thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=121363
I will need a Santa Rosa with mobile Intel 965 chipset plus window vista business 64bit to get the full 4gb of ram that I will put into a T61.

So the question is, if I were to choose this processor, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T8100 (2.1GHz 800MHz 3MBL2), is it Santa Rosa with Intel 965 Chipset?? Anyone know the answer to this?

Also, which wireless LAN card would you get?
    ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe
    or
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
**I will be installing OpenSUSE as well, which will be easier to install?

    Thanks!

Yes that processor is on the Santa Rosa platform and with Vista 64 you will be able to use all 4GB of your RAM.

Sorry don't know about the wireless cards.

Just for clarification, you don't necessarily need all of the components in a Santa Rosa platform if all you want to do is enable support for 4GB of RAM. You'll just need the 64-bit OS if that's all you want to do.

Technically, the Santa Rosa platform would require the Intel card, but I'd recommend the Atheros card, simply because it generally gets better range than the 3945.

As for OpenSUSE, I have no idea which card would work better, sorry.

both wireless card will work on Opensuse. Many people say Atheros is better hardware-wise.

As far as I know, the version of Home Basic Lenovo installs is not 64-bit, so if you still want your 4GB of RAM to be fully detected you will run into trouble there.
