Is it okay/safe for me to go ahead and put in the 2 1 gig sticks of ram before I ever power the laptop on?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

Just today I added 1GB before the first power up on a T61. No problems at all.

I would power up 1st just to be sure the memory is not DOA or glitchy before swapping. Just in case you want to sell the SoDIMM(s) you can say it was tested and guaranteed not to be DOA this way.

Good suggestion. Use the 1st card to make sure everything is working. I installed 4GB RAM after a few uses.
