I was hoping to get some info on older Lenovo laptops, specifically a quick overview over the 13" and 14" laptops with Core2Duo or better (e.g. the T60).

Which of these have 16:10, and which have 16:9 aspect ratio? Which have better or worse screens? Matte or glossy?

    What is their approximate weight?

If someone happens to have encyclopedic Lenovo knowledge and would bother taking a couple of minutes with this, it would be very much appreciated!

For Lenovo Thinkpads, only the X300 and X301 have the 13.3 inch LCD.

Starting from R61 and T61, there are 14.1 inch widescreen models (16:10). This continued with the T400/R400, until the T410 (the latest you can get).

For 14.1 inch standard aspect ratio (4:3), T60, R60, T61 and R61 all had models of them.

Currently, there is no Thinkpad that is 13.3 inch or 14.1 inch LCD in 16:9 ratio.

All of them should come standard with Matte LCD.

Not sure about the weight of these machines though.

You could download tabook documents on these models, which will specify the weight of these machines.

Let us not forget the always underrated Z61t. It's perhaps the best widescreen ThinkPad to date. If you can find one with a titanium lid in good shape, you'll have a real treat. I think the weight ranges from about four and a half to five pounds depending on whether you got the titanium lid and which battery you have.

the design of the Z61t is more pleasing than a T61 widescreen laptop, as it have all the curves in the right places..... i am typing on it right now.....

    Thanks again guys!

The Z61t looks nice, but doesn't it have a weaker Core2Duo processor than most T60/T61's for example?

I want to get a model with a nice screen for writing, and I want to get it for $300 on eBay from someone that will ship internationally (I'm in Norway). It seems the best I can get is a T60 with the SXGA+ 1400x1050 screen. Is that a decent choice?

It's not a bad choice. The SXGA+ screens are OK, there's nothing special about them. They're a bit dimmer compared to more modern laptop screens. I think they're fine on the upper brightness levels, but that will cut into battery life. I guess it would depend on how you use it. For Internet or Office type stuff I think they're acceptable, but if you want to do any multimedia stuff like movies or photos, the lower contrast and thin angles can make for a less enjoyable experience.

If you want a ThinkPad with a good screen, I'd suggest a 15" T60 with either the SXGA+ or UXGA screens. They're much better screens, but they're not as portable and $300 might be low to get one over to Norway. If you're not doing anything CPU intensive you could drop down the T43, which will probably be a little more wallet friendly and should offer more enough performance for typical usage.

you can put a T7xxx CPU FSB 667 mhz into a Z61t, which is uses a similar intel chipset as the R60 and T60 laptops.

I really can't go beyond 14" unfortunately. Too bad the screens differ that much between T60 14" and 15".

Are you saying the T43 has a better screen than the 14" T60?

I'm also considering a Dell D620 or D630, which seem fairly similar in specs. Do you happen to know how the screen quality is on those compared to a T60/T43?

For the 14.1 inch LCD, the quality is pretty much the same between the Dell and Thinkpads. But the Dell Latitude of those era are slightly harder to service compared to the equivalent thinkpads.

If you want a older smaller ThinkPad with a good screen, I might suggest either the X41t or the X60t. The tablets are a bit heavier than their non-tablet counterparts, but both have gorgeous IPS screens. The X60t is probably beyond your budget, but you might get lucky if you're patient. The X41t I think would be a good fit, but it uses an older/slower hard drive with limited upgrade options that tends to be clicky. If you can live with slower drive, it might be an option.

    Lead_org: I'm leaning towards a D620 - it's somewhat lighter, has 16:10 (which I prefer to the 4:3 T60's I found), and is a fair bit cheaper than a T60.

ZaZ: I would love an IPS screen, but I think 14" is what I need... If there aren't any within my budget, I'll go with a Dell D620 I think!

I went with the D620! Thanks a bunch for all your help, this would have taken hours more without you :)
