Buying a notebook for my daughter for christmas. She will be using it for school in a nursing program. I am thinking about this one ( see link
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=3524534 ) I'm computer illiterate guys so bear with me. She wants a cd burner for music ( wants , not needs) This unit has that right? Anyone know of any discounts or specials or recommend a place to buy? Anyone know how long IBM warrentys their units?I gotta get this ordered soon. Many thanks!

Yep, the part where it says CD-RW tells you it has a CD burner (most computers come with them these days - in fact, that model's cd-rom will also play DVDs - a nice combo drive). That model also has a pentium M chip - much better than a Celeron.

I would say to order the computer directly from IBM - especially since you should be able to get a student discount for your daughter. Click here and do a search for the 2883QU model (it's the one your just linked - just use the find function on your web-browser). At this present time it costs $1,079 - less than the store you linked. Plus, if you order from IBM you can return it within 30 days if your daughter doesn't like it for some reason.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Bill,
I emailed you with the answers you were looking for. CrescentImage was wrong about the price from IBM though. The IBM direct price for this model is $1,199 not $1,079. IBM is more expensive, but from them you can return for any reason within the 1st 30 days after purchase. The warranty on this model is 1 year and if there is ever a need to send it back for repairs IBM will ship you a box by fedex overnight and pay shipping both ways and return it fedex overnight as well.

Actually, it is $1,079 at the link I provided - since it seems that this can be an educational purchase, I linked to the educational store, which provides a decent discount off of the $1,199 list price :)

    Crescentmage,
I went to the link you provided and I can't find the notebook anywhere or the education discount link. Can you point a blind man in the right direction? Sorry for all the questions. Many thanks

No problem. The link I provided (click here) links right to the education store - if you click it, you are looking at education prices. That's why it says web price/your price - "your price" is the educational pricing.

I just did a search, and it seems that the first site you posted had the wrong model number - try a search for 28838QU and you should find it. You can click here for an image of what it should look like.

Note: If you want to get to the store yourself without using the link I provided, you can just go to the IBM homepage and click on Resources for: Education, then on the next page click student personal purchase. But it's probably easier to just follow the link above.

    Hope that works for you!
