    I'm considering purchasing a Thinkpad R61.

The models that come with 1gb of RAM- will it be 2x 512mb stick or a single 1gb stick? I want to know as I intend to upgrade it to 2gb.

    Thanks!

Where are you purchasing from? On the main site it's listed right next to each option.

    Example:
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)

As long as the price difference is small and reasonable, it is better to get the single (1) stick.

So isn't it better to get 2 sticks instead of 1?

Of course. 2 sticks totaling 2 gigs. Just don't get it from lenovo unless you like paying an extra $75 for ram that you don't need to.

its better to get a single stick when you build it because u can get another stick cheaper then from lenovo and just install it yourself. its only like 40 bucks for a 1gig stick from like newegg but its like 80 or something from lenovo when you build it. hope this helps good luck on what you end up getting i have to wait until monday for mine to get delievered (dang weekend lol) :(
