    Hello,

I have decided to purchase the T400 with WXGA LED screen (non-"+") because I want the screen to be more readable than having more real estate (which I can do with my desktop).

But I heard somewhere that, resolution and text-size aside, the WXGA+ screen is a better screen with better contrast, less backlight bleed, whiter whites, etc.. Is this true? And who are the manufacturers (I do hear something about the chance of getting a really bad screen made by this manufacturer.. I'm not certain of the name though).

Also, I understand the WXGA screen is 185+nits, whereas the WXGA+ is 200+nits. Is this going to really make a difference? In other words, does a WXGA+ user (which I realize is the majority on this forum) ever need to use beyond 185 nits indoors? Or is 185 nits already too bright for indoors and say, 165, is more than enough?

    Thanks for your help. :)

considering the variation in production even from the same vendor the difference between a 165 cd/m² and a 185 cd/m² is probably negligible. i have a beautiful flexview panel which i think is there between 165 and 185 cd/m². now at night i have it 6 of 7 bars brightness, at day i have it all up to 7 bars.

for outdoors however 165/185 is not enough, or at least quite stressful.

and also, from what i've *heared* and *read* (so no personal optionion yet) the led variants havve worse viewing angles and colour reproduction. so besides the probably somewhat lesser/better power consumption of the led screens, i'd rather get the ccfl screen - if i was to choose between the ccfl and led wxga variant. personally i prefer the wxga+.

I have the WXGA LED screen on my T400, and love it. Based on comments on this site regarding LG vs. Samsung displays, I wanted an LG-made LED screen, and according to thinkwiki.com, only LG makes the T400 WXGA LED screen. That's why I bought one.
You asked for opinions, and that's mine!

Thanks for your replies! I am most likely going to go with the WXGA LED option. thisway, if you don't mind, can I ask you the normal level of brightness you turn your screen up to (eg. 5/7 bars, etc)? And I assume from the tone of your reply that the rumours about horrible contrast/viewing angles etc. are false? All help is welcome, I really like the T400 but the comments revolving around its screen (mainly WXGA) are making me think twice.

I normally have my brightness level at 12 out of 15 bars, maybe one or two higher if the room is really bright. Is it the brightest screen I've used? No, but way better than what I was expecting. It is a better screen than my colleague's T500, also WXGA, but made by Samsung.
Viewing angles are below that of my HP, so don't expect a lot in that area. Contrast is satisfactory; not great, but in no way a deal-breaker.

I have a T500 WXGA LED Samsung screen and have been quite pleased with it. Straight on it is very good. Viewing angles are acceptable, but it's a notebook and there is rarely a time when I need to view the screen at an angle. Colors and contrast are quite good. If the LG screen is better than this, it must be very good indeed.
