I'm not quite sure how to turn this option back on, but the optical drive used to power itself off after a few minutes of no use and now it just stays on indefinitely. Anyone know where I can change the settings for this?

Open up Power Manager and go to the "Advanced" view. In the "Power Plan" tab, expand the "System Settings" button, and then change the "Automatic optical drive power off" setting.

Hmm it seems to already be enabled. I toggled it on and off and the drive still remains on. Any idea why that could be?

Try manually powering off the optical drive, then removing it from your Thinkpad. Then, reinsert it and see if it will power off automatically again.

That did the trick, thanks. Out of curiosity may I ask why though?

Haha, I just had a hunch that manually power cycling the optical drive would help wtih the problem ;)

In the System Tray, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon and disconnect the optical drive.
