I ordered a T61 last week and everything was fine on the order status page. However, today I went there and all of the items that show how I configured it are gone. What happened? I'm not going to get just a chassis system am I?

You're not alone. Same thing happened to me just now, but I don't know what's going on any more than you. I assume it's maybe just an error or update on their side.

Same date/esd as you, pbollin. I'm waiting impatiently.

    I got the 14 wxga+ w/ camera and 100gb 7200rpm drive.

See, now, I ordered same thing, but bigger drive on the 18th, and I was quoted an ESD of 9/10 on my order status page, whereas you were quoted earlier.

Also, I called to ask about it, and I've now been told 8/8 is my estimated ship date, despite what the order status page says.

Based on this, I've been watching peoples posts in shipping threads for a few days, and I've reached a conclusion:

The estimated shipping dates for computers including 14.1" WXGA+ w/Camera have been coming earlier as orders get placed later, and they're quoting me even earlier. I suspect the order status system is a little spacey and we're going to get our computers much earlier than we expect. Does this make sense to anyone else?

A lot of people on this forum are saying that the original ESD that lenovo puts on your order is more like a worst case scenario ESD.

I like these ideas. With the exception of the very first batch of T61s, most people seem to be getting theirs earlier that estimated. However, many of them called and asked about their status

The question now is, will they only ship earlier if you call and inquire? Or, does calling not bump you up in the production line, and they ship earlier anyway?

Call them up and ask, they're very helpful and can almost certainly find a solution. They also told me they can change the shipping address, but they're not supposed to, so it's kind of them doing a favor. I had very good luck calling about my deadlines.

They are supposed to be careful with changing shipping addresses, of course. You have to prove that you are the original customer, otherwise, what if I knew enough of your info and call them up to change your shipping address to my home address?

I think that's why they aren't supposed to do it ;-)

Yea I called them. They say that they can change the address, but I don't view that as them doing us a favor. Change of address will result in further delays, and, quite frankly, it's better to have someone else just deliver it overnight for you. That's probably what I am having my mom do for me when I leave for college. It is also possible for them to ship it earlier than the estimated date. It all depends on what's going on over on their side. Furthermore, the Estimated Ship Date can fluctuate like a biitch. It all depends on the amount of resources available to them and their capacity. I have been hearing that Lenovo is currently under constraint because they are lacking a lot of the materials needed to build our laptops, which will further the delays. However, they don't want to divulge that because they just want the backorders to just keep building up. Then, under all the pissed off customers, they would just give them cheap free things to shut them up for a while. Hopefully, this scenario will not happen. If it does...shiiit will I be one pissed off customer.

The delays are because the "official" way involves replacing th order with a different packing slip. They said they would call UPS and work with them to reroute it immediately after it shipped for me.

I know my charge is now been placed against my credit card as of today, so hopefully that means it's getting towards...getting out the door.
