Hello everybody,
I have placed my order of a T61/T61p 14 inch (8891CTO, I am confused whether it's T61 or T61p, I thought it is a T61p since it got the better vcard, FX 570M with 128mb) at Lenovo Canadian web site on Jan 12th. Then I called the Lenovo call center on Jan 14th to confirm my order.
This morning, on Jan 22nd, I called them again and the customer representative told me that I have to wait at least another 2 weeks till the machine to be shipped out.
Do I need to wait that long? My configuration is almost the default except a better CPU (T7500) and better wireless card (3945?) which are not tagged for the 3-4 weeks delay* on the customize page.
I know some of you have ordered machines from Lenovo's Canadian site, did them take 3-4 weeks to ship out the items all the time?
Thanks to all answers.
By the way I'm from Calgary, AB.

Your CTO becomes a T61p once you add the 570M video card.
Unless you order an in-stock "ready to buy" model, your notebook will be assembled in China to your spec and shipped with other custom orders in batches to Canada (typically once a week from what I've read).
I think you will be lucky to get it in 4 weeks.
Read this thread and especially the linked article.
Article: Deep Problems at Lenovo Canada
If you are in a hurry it is best to order from a 3rd party that has the notebook you want in stock. Someone like CDW Canada -
I ordered mine on Dec. 21. It's Jan 22nd now, and Lenovo just told me that it just reached customs. If you need it earlier than a month, I'd recommend getting another brand that has reliable shipping (Dell, HP) or like Yorgi said, get it from a third party reselller. Bad thing about the resellers are that usually they cost more, at least when it comes to Thinkpads, and if you're in Canada.

I ordered 1 last thursday and a second one on sunday. The first one shipped yesterday from China and the second one shipped today. These were customized T61p.
On a more angry note, the reason i was shipped two was because the moron sales rep i talked to on Sunday didn't cancel my order in time for it to not be shipped, so now I've been double charged and shipped two. According to Lenovo support on the phone, I won't be charged a restocking fee, just call and they will send me a label to ship it back. It better be that easy. -

To order from the US, you have to use an American Express credit card and ship the notebook to a US address. And you probably need to add the US address as a secondary address with American Express. -
I dont know if it helps, but I ordered mine on 21st of December, but haven't received it yet.... called the helpdesk and told me I should receive it nextweek. -
The funny thing is that I am actually an international student from China, although I have been lived here for more than 6 years. I hope I can just tell Lenovo to ship my machine to my parents address in China and let them to send it to me maybe that could be faster, just kidding...
Also, the T61 and T61p in China are about double the price here, I was surprised about that, and they don't even let you order thinkpad laptops from the Chinese web site, the laptops they sell on their Chinese web site are all lenovo brands and the configurations are kind of out of date... compare to thinkpads.
It's not really nice for a Chinese company to do things like that, they got so rich to buy IBM PC lines because of Chinese customers, and then they treat those customers like some kind of second class citizens.
Anyway, I had a brief look at CDW Canada, I don't think it's worth (for me, at least) to order a thinkpad there, the price is average 100+ more comparing to Lenovo's web site, plus the modules they are selling are pretty old (3-6 months?). -
I probably could get a Dell instead of waiting for months. I wouldn't consider HP tho since I have been asked to repair two HP laptops from my friends (one is a pavilion dv1000 and other is an old compaq presario) and be honest to you it's pretty much the worst designed laptops IMO, I am current using a vaio (which was a gift) and I have disassembled more than 20 laptops for repairing and upgrading, HP/Compaq laptops are definitely not what I would spend money on, again, just IMO.
In the other hand Dell seems to have some nice modules available, but I would like to give Lenovo some more time before I change my mind, not becuz I like them, just becuz I love thinkpads. -
Hope you can get your money back. Good Luck! -
I found another thing today is that if you are going to pay lenovo with visa card, you can get a discount because visa purchasing. I called the customer rep today and a young lady told me that I will get that discount as a credit when they take charge from my credit card. It was not very much, about 50 dollars but better than nothing.
Here is the visa link.

I already posted this in another thread:
I ordered a 14 inch CTO model on Dec. 5/2007 and received it Dec. 21/2007.
Some sort of shipping notification was sent out on Dec. 13/2007, but I believe those were generated at the factory in China. Checking the tracking number on the order I received it was sent from Brampton on Dec. 17/2007.
They were shipping the products to their warehouse in Brampton, where the orders are split and sent out to Canadian customers.
Unfortunately the notebook I received was not configured correctly, I was shortchanged on the RAM and received 1 GB instead of 2 GB. I spoke to a customer service representative on Dec. 26/2007 and was promised that the module would be sent, but I have yet to receive it.
I also asked to for the student computers discount and CAPBOXINGDAY discount to be applied retroactively to my order (saving $200+) but so far my CC has not been credited yet. -
The wired thing is that I don't see my tracking number on those two notifications. I checked my bank account no charge has been put on my credit card neither. But if I just ordered one laptop, how come they give me two mails? I guess the battery is sent separately? I am going to call them tmr and will post the update. -
okay.. i ordered lenovo T61 on Dec 7th, 2007 online. After repeated calling and asking when my laptop will be ship and getting different answers from the rep everytime i called (i called 5-6 times in a span for 3 weeks). At last i got fed up being on hold for 30 mins and when i finally got thru.. i told the rep i wanted to cancel the order since it was getting no where it was now Jan 16th. so i put a request to cancel the order and the rep says he can't process it on the computer right now but he'll put a paper request to cancel it soo i'm like sure. okay.. and he tells me to call back in a couple days to confirmed that its cancelled. soo yesterday Jan 23rd... the laptop came to my door but my credit card has yet to be charged... on the box.. it says it was shipped on the 16th..
soo i'm wondering if lenovo cancelled my order while the order was already shipped?
but one thing about the laptop was that i order 2 gb of ram... but only came with 1gb.. soo i'm kinda pissed about that ... but what do you guys think? will they charge my credit card soon? the rep said that they only charge the credit card when its shipped out... its been over a week and i have possession of the laptop... and nothing on my credit card yet...
maybe free laptop?? -

I ordered 2 gigs as well. Hopefully it's installed in mine. I actually just called about my order and they said it should be arriving in Canada on Monday, and arriving by the end of next week. If I get it, my estimated ship date was pushed back two week from expected.
-
About the cancellation, I have seen ppl in this forum got different answers about that. I did ask them to cancel my order twice and they both made the cancellation immediately and sent me emails to confirm. The first time the situation was similar to yours. I placed my order for a t61 some time in Dec and after two weeks there was no shipping no email and I found that I could order a t61p at lower price so I called them to complain about the delay, that cust rep was not very nice to talk to but he did ask me if I wanna cancel my order, hell, ya.
The second time was on Jan 8. I placed an order at early morning for a t61p, and when I rechecked their web site at that afternoon, the price magically dropped almost 100 bucks on the same model with the same config. So I called them on Jan 10 and told that situation, although they didn't admit that kind of price dropping is actually possible (which is definitely not the truth) but that guy did offer me an option to cancel my order and place a new one with the "newer" model, so I did that with him (we went through the process on the phone) and my confirmation email was received on Jan 11.
About the ram, I also upgrade mine to 2 g, I really hope they send me what I payed. Otherwise I gonna send the machine back and order a gateway. -
Update to my order:
Just called Lenovo and got my tracking number, my machine will be arrived on Jan 29th according to UPS, now let's hope I will get the right configuration from lenovo. -
I got tired of waiting for Lenovo, got a friend to drive it from Ottawa to Toronto. I get the computer, and lo and behold, 1G of RAM instead of the 2G that I ordered. I was even GIVING them money, because i could have installed the RAM myself, but I didn't want to deal with that hassle. Pretty ironic situation now.
I can't get over how annoying this process is. In addition, I can't connect to the internet using my thinkpad, i have the 4965 AGN upgrade too. Not sure why, maybe it doesn't work with the DLINK router. My crappy acer works fine.
Order processing/Shipping time from Lenovo Canadian web site?
