    Hi Guys,
new to the site and wanted to thank everyone who contributes to this site on a regular basis. I used this site along with notebook check to make my decision on my T61p.

I don't have the official detailed spec sheet but this is what I got

OS - Windows XP Pro - (maybe Vista Business down the road hence the RAM)
    CPU - Intel Cord 2 Duo T9300 2.5Ghz
    Cache - 6MB L2
RAM - 4 Gig (2 Gigs per slot)
    Video - 256MB nVidia Quadro FX 570M
    HD - 160GB 7200Rpm
    Optical Drive - DvD Multi-burner
    Battery - 9C
    Bluetooth
    IFR

I wanted to game a little and use it for Photoshop, Illustrator and some gaming.

I was originally going to go with the intergrated card GMA x3100 but then researched some more, decided to go with the Class2 video GPU in the FX570M. I figured I would be kicking myself in the butt if I had not gone with the better GPU as being a tech guy and being very picky. I would have cursed myself to no end.

I am paying CPP thru my work University's Employee plan. 2 year full warranty for the life of the 24 month payment cycle.

    Comments would be appreciated.

Again, just saying hello, as this is my first post and wanted to thank everyone again for all the research done which helped me make my decision.

    Thanks

    Nash

How did you get to the 61p's page? I must be blind...I can't seem to find it on Lenovo's site now?

    Hey guys.
no coupon. my work has a distributor where they have DB of all the laptops available to them. I guess i lucked out and the distributor had a T61p on hand so I am getting that bad boy.

with my work it comes out to roughly $99Cdn a month off my paycheque.

Thanks. It's my first one. I know it was a little pricey and I know you pay double for half of what you get in a desktop clone. But I have used a T43 before, it was fantastic (even played Age of Empires 3 on that) when I was a consultant. Great stuff.

After everything though I looked at the specs of a MacBook Pro - wow that thing is built to the hilt right outta the box. No wonder you pay a premium on it.

You got pretty much the same one as me too.

Just watch out with trying to fit it in any kind of case or pack, the 9-cell battery makes many impossible.

I have the 15.4" T61p with the 9 cell battery as well. I use the Wenger Synergy Backpack. The laptop fits perfectly. I did a review for it. You can check it out by clicking on the link in my signature.

Another case/bag option for the T61P w/9-cell is the Pelican 1495 laptop case, it's not the cheapest but there isn't really a whole lot better protection available, other then just not taking it anywhere :p. If and when my T61p shows up I'll take some pics of it in the case.

I have a Targus CityGear New York Notebook Case (TCG400) for my T61p with 9-cell. It's a great bag with lots of padding and lots of compartments.

Wow, thanks for all the input guys. This again shows me what a great bunch of professionals are on this forum.

I actually have a Targus backpack. It's pretty huge.

is the type I have. Pretty good all round backpack. I have traveled and carried things in there besides a laptop with me

Nice choice! I think you will love it, I know that I am loving mine. I did the same thing with my GPU as well. I was originally thinking that I was going for the x3100 but then went for the 570 so I could play a little more games and be future proof. One comment though. You could have gone for the lowest memory option and them bought more memory aftermarket to save money.

Yes I was thinking that, myself. I am an IT Tech and could change memory in my sleep. I could say no to the memory on day of purchase and do it myself for cheap elsewhere. The catch is they will do it and it goes with my employee plan. That way i dont see the money off my cheque and do not have to go to a store and buy it for cash. I know ignorance is bliss, but what you can't and don't believe can't hurt you ;) .

I forgot. My University will price match guarantee the RAM. So I am safe! They are pretty good for pricing ie. you can buy a MacBook Pro for cheaper thru my University instead of the Mac Store and the local Mac Rip off artists Westworld (so I hear)

    Hey Guys,
just to update. I got my new T61p in my hands and have been doing my updates software etc. since yesterday to get it the way i like it.

the strange thing is my Wifi works fine but in my works Gig connection using a DHCP Reserve does not work anymore. I works if I static code the IP in the Lenovo network connections manager.

I did a BIOS update to version 2.21 last night and did a whack of updates to the system software as well.

Strange, but Wifi works after all the updates, just not DHCP with a reservation to the LAN MAC.

have you guys seen this before?

Whoops got my DHCP issue fixed. Looks like a M$ update screwed up my DNS and DHCP settings. Nice Job M$ but I still love ya.

The machine so far is great. Very Fast and I ran Day of Defeat (HL1 engine) without any issue.

What i love is the widescreen's ability to do high resolution. Very Impressive.

    Love the T61p so far.
