Noticed that the T61 4:3 was available this morning on my Lenovo alumni site and ordered one. ESD is 8/21. I also ordered the widescreen on 5/28 through SPP but that still shows a 8/30 ESD. I ordered both with XPP. We'll see which one gets here first.

You might want to double check because the configured system you've quoted stated it's a T60.

I'm pretty sure that's a typo. The parts list is definitely for a T61.

    Try this link

I dunno if it will still work, but a google search of Ohio state, alumni and lenovo will get you to the same site.

They are selling an SXGA+ T61 - but only with integrated graphics. Interesting.

How come it is still not possible to order a 4:3 T61 on the main website? Is Lenovo only offering this to certain people or what?

When you go to the page to configure a 14inch regular screen T61, you can stills elect Thinkpad a/b/g/n as your wireless card. But it says on there that if you select the Thinkpad a/b/g/n it may delay your order. Curious, there's been some speculation that the Atheros n module may have compatibility issues with draft n version 2.0, but now it looks like Lenovo simply ran out of Atheros n wireless modules.

since this is only T61, does that mean it will only have an integrated video card for the 14.1 SXGA+. But will there be a 14.1 SXGA+ T61P and will that have a better GPU?

Maybe it's only a 14.1 SXGA+ screen installed on a WXGA+ frame, which would make it look too ugly.

For a 4:3 screen, is XGA better or SXGA+ better? Am asking because I read from a website that XGA is for 4:3 screens while SXGA+ is for other ratios. Any help appreciated! :)

    XGA is 1024x768
SXGA+ is 1400x1050 which I think is still 4:3.. too lazy to do the math

SXGA+ will give you more space (some ppl call it "real estate") on screen than XGA, but everything will be smaller: pictures, text size etc. So it really depends on your needs.

I found this "first look" guide for the T61

    http://67.59.168.158/firstlooks/pxw141/en/player.html
under 6. Features and Benefits and then Portability and Display Types it says:

So i guess they are behind schedule then...

All processors on T series models are 64-bit capable. They must be talking about the OS that will be offered with the corresponding display.

Such as making the laptop thicker and heavier. No thanks. I prefer the reinforced composite on the previous model, which was a more expensive construction than the T61's thick cheap plastic wrapped over a heavy piece of iron. lol

    lowspeed,

Did you ever inquire about why this part:

is labelled as such? The rest of the bill of materials seems to correctly reflect a T61, but that line item is keeping me from pulling the trigger just yet.

Also, when you get your laptop, could you tell us if the LCD screen is off-center like all of the currently shipped widescreen T61's?

Thanks, and glad to hear your good news!

    It's a typo ...

It's funny i called today to check on the order... and the rep insisted it was a T60... so after i repeated "no it's a t61" he asked me to wait and probably talked to a supervisor.... when he returned he confirmed that it was a typo and it's indeed a T61.

Didn't get it yet... it shipped today... most likely will get to me by Tuesday.

Man i really hope that after all this i won't be disappointed.

My first T61 order was on 5/9 which of course never shipped... so i canceled it on the 25th just to reorder on the 28th (which btw shipped...)

Then i saw this SXGA+ 14'' model which is what i wanted all along so i returned the unopened widescreen version and now waiting for this.

The Wide version has so many minuses -
    1) jacks in the front
    2) Lower vertical res
    3) 4 cell battery vs 6 cell battery (not protruding)
    4) Naturally wider ...
    5) speakers on the top (which could get water in them)
    6) It doesn't have an horizontal USB port like the non wide version.
