Ordered a T61!

After much patience and research I gave in and bought a T61. I don't like buying things as soon as they come out but I just didn't see them changing much on the 14" widescreen model in the next month or so, which is the screen size I wanted. Anyway, I have two questions that I can't get answered by lenovo since they're closed on the weekends.


When I asked about the return policy they said I have 21 days to cancel or return my order from when the invoice is printed. What does that exactly mean? Does that mean 21 days from when they get the order or 21 days from when they started building it. I'm confused.

This is one hard description to try to interpret. They have that I'm geting 2 gigs of ram on the top and then 1 gig on the bottom. WWAN misc parts? I didn't get WWAN. Anway estimated ship day is 5/30 so I got a while.

 

When you place your order you will receive a confirmation e-mail with your system spec. and estimate of shipping date , you can cancel your order at any time before they ship it and get a full refund and even if the price drops you can call them and get the cheaper one ( but you need to cancel your order and get the new one with cheaper price and more wait ) . after shipping your item , when you check online you will see a shipping confirmation tracking number and shipping date , that date is the date they count ,after that date you have 21 days ,
when you receive an order and don't want it , you have 21 days after that shipping date to return it :
1-if you don't open the package you can return it for full price .
2-if you open it you can return it for an upgrade system with no re-stocking fee , but if you return it to get your money back they will charge you 15 % re-stocking fee .

 

i think you ordered your system wuth 3GB ram so you are getting 2GB in one slot and 1Gb for other one and you clicked and add for free WWAN (Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network) option for your system ,

 

I def didn't click on 3 gigs of ram but hey if they want to give it to me at that price I'm fine with it. As for the WWAN, I checked the option to get the 1gb turbo memory "42V8193 SBB INTEL TURBO MEMORY 1GB ", and when you choose that option you can't get the WWAN. Thanks for the help though....It's good to know the return policy.

 

I'd double check with them, I'm not really sure why the last gig shows up on the order. As far as the Turbo thing, I've seen a few benchmarks saying it doesn't do much, if anything. Save the $50 and buy me a beer.

BTW, why do you need a Smart Card Reader? The Express Card reader sounds much more useful, even the media card reader.

 

I didn't get the smart card reader, I got the media card reader....that's what I'm saying that order description is rather confusing.

As for the intel tubro memory, I think it can be useful. It sounds good it theory at for $47 I'll take it.

I put the order in last night and the sales office is closed on the weekends. I'll be calling them on monday to make sure everything on the order is clear.

 

Practically zero difference in speed and power consumption

Look through all the pages, it's a pretty good preview.

 

Then you should know that even the reviewer was uncertain if they got a lemon sample due to the total weirdness of the performance with Turbo Memory.

 

I hope that was just a lemon or something. If it is for sure true, this might be a waste of money. It wouldbe nice to get a faster machine and/or better battery life.

 

I ordered one too. My ship date is 05/31. Yes, their product description is kind of confusing.

If you can make sense out of it, I ordered 2 gigs of RAM, a WWAN internal verizon ev-do card, and the expresscard.

 

jd1010, that 1gb on the bottom may be the memory for the Intel turbo memory if you only ordered 2GB of RAM

 

I think you guys need to call them and talk to them , it could be they got your order wrong or their system error, if it was me i would called them and chat with them , they have very nice , knowledgeable Customer service

Hey guys, I ordered one also with only 1GB of RAM (figured I would get more later) and I have the same thing on the bottom. I didn't get the turbo memory but it has the 1GB up top and then that 1GB on the bottom

 

It can't be Turbo Memory since you can't have Turbo Memory and WWAN at the same time.

 

It's not. Anyone can order 2GB and it shows up the same way in your cart. I think it's just a weird glitch.

 

What if in case it took 3 weeks since the "shipment date" to deliver the notebook? Does that mean we don't any time to return that item? I think it would be more resonable to count from the date of delivery, which Lenovo can verify with UPS.

Im thoroughly miffed. The price of my configuration went down from 1873 to 1638. Over $250 bucks! I hope they pricematch, as I still want my 10% from the amex/taylormade cash-back deal. Anyone know the best deal to pricematch?

Edit: Whoops, when I got the 2nd quote I forgot to put 2GB of RAM. Still, it's $100 cheaper with the same configuration. But I'd be better off taking the $250 savings, and buying another gig elsewhere for $50. Wonder if I can change my order too.....

The tailormade deal is kaput, that's the reason for the apparent lowering of the price.

 

My exact config is a bit lower too. Though I'm going to go from an R to a T, same config, and still save 25 bucks. At least this promo should be the same until I can no longer cancel it

 

I'm wondering if the price match pushes back the expected shipping date. I'm not changing anything on the configuration and the price is $80 less. I'm wondering if that'll mess with my fatwallet 5% off deal though.

 

I need to push back the shipping date anyway.. I'm leaving town June 2 and won't be back till June 12. UPS only holds stuff 5 business days so I might be SOL.

If they hold off shipping until June 6 or something I'll be ok. BTW, anyone planning on canceling, be prepared to suffer. I've been on hold 20 minutes, and the R&B music is hideous. I really think they're trying to get me to hang up.

I just spoke to someone. What they told me to do was to configure a new machine save it as a quote and then e-mail the quote to the rep that helped me purchase my computer on friday. He should keep an eye for when the computer ships out and then adjust the price.

 

I ordered a T61 yesterday and it's cheaper today, so I called today to get the new price. They're going to credit my credit card the ~$60 difference.

 

Any adjustments made will pretty much kill your 5% back, at least that's my impression from reading the FAQs at FatWallet.

 

I just ordered a T61 with the discrete NVIDIA graphics card. See the product description below. The confusing thing is that one of the components seems to be the integrated graphics media accelerator

Is it possible to have both the discrete and integrated graphics card or is this a mistake?

well, either way I think I'd rather go with the price adjustment. The fatwallet would give me back $80 and the price adjustment would give me back $80. However, the price adjustment would be reflected right away and I might still have a chance to get the 5% back from fatwallet.

 

nb10, I wouldn't worry too much about that description page. It doesn't make much sense. You can call to make sure everything is right on the order, but that description page is just for their use really.

 

what does this 1 gig turbo cache do?

I have 1 concern with the intel turbo memory and maybe some of you can help me. I'm going to law school in august and the school recommends I get xp but it's not required, so I ordered vista business with my laptop. Now lets say I'm having compatability issues and such and I decide to switch back to xp. I know the the turbo memory won't work with xp, but will it cause problems with xp running on my computer?

 

That's not a mistake, and it's not a graphics chip, its the chipset.

 

It shouldn't affect XPs funtionality at all. It may show up in Device Manager as an unknown device, that about all it'll do. XP doesn't know what it is so will gleefully ignore it!

I'm hoping that the 7-cell battery and 3-cell Ultrabay Battery will cancel out the battery-eating effects of the graphics card.

I'm also hoping that the screen will be bright enough.

 

I just ordered mine on 5/19. Est. shipping date is 6/6. I'm a little concerned with this since i'm leaving the country on 6/11. This is my first experience with Lenovo, so does anyone know if they ship on time, or early or late?

I've never ordered a lenovo until I saw the new T61 on May 9th. I placed my order same day with an estmated ship date of May 28th. I went on their website today to check on the status and it's now Aug 30th. From doing various google searches I've seen Lenovo is notorious with delaying delivery of laptops. I will call them tomorrow morning and ask them what the hell is going on. If I were you I wouldn't keep your hopes up you will get the laptop in time

Yeah I'm extremely pissed because I ordered mine on 5/9 which I believe was the day they were available to the public, and now it says august 30th, and I have not received any notification of shipment, it says that the shipping information will be available the day after, so I'm going to wait until the end of the day tomorrow and then call.

 

Yeah, I also ordered mine on 5/9 and had a ship date of 5/28. Today it shipped to 8/30. I will call them tomorrow on my lunch break and cancel the order if it wont ship within another 2 weeks; I can't wait any longer! In addition, I created the exact same configuration and it is now $113 cheaper than it was! I created a price quote so I can order it again at the lower price if they won't give me that price on my current order or I cancel it.

 

That's weird...I ordered mine on 5/13 and I still have a ship date of 5/31. Hasn't changed once!

 

Where do you guys get these specific ship dates?

I ordered a N200 from the Canadian website, and all I get is that is, "We have placed your order in priority sequence and we anticipate your order will be shipped within the next week."

 

I ordered mine on May 9th but the order (via phone) couldn't be entered until May 10th. The ship date was and is May 29th so tomorrow is the big day and I'm hoping it is good news.

Lenovo must be getting swamped today with calls after the long holiday weekend. I had to hold almost 30 minutes before talking to someone.

Here is the scoop:
There is a bug on the website with the expected delivery dates, but they probably won't be corrected until the notebook actually ships out. Once it ships then the date will change and the tracking information should be there.

Now the BAD NEWS. The sales rep has confirmed there are delays with the T61. Today they received an email from the supply manager confirming there is a delay due to an internal part that was on backorder. They're expecting the part to come in by June 2nd and then laptops will go into production for building them. At the earliest laptops won't ship out until June 4th.

Also some may have noticed certain options are now missing from the Lenovo website. You can no longer configure a T61 with the T7700 processor or with Vista Business 64bit. I inquired about this with the sales rep and he had to do some investigating. After holding another 5 minutes he confirmed that there is a delay in the 64bit OS. It's probably due to compatibility issues since there OS has already been released from Microsoft. The sales rep thought it was because they don't have the 64bit disks to burn the image, but I doubt that. The 64bit OS has been out since January so I think there may be a compatibility issue with the drivers/software. I was given an estimate that the OS will be ready 2nd week of June.

The T7700 processor is on backorder and was confirmed with the supply manager. They're not expecting them to be in stock until the 3rd week in January. This means that a laptop I ordered on May 9th may not get delivered until late June or early July which would mean almost 2 months from my order date. Thats just INSANE.

I actually wanted to get a laptop with the built in camera so the sales rep said he could reorder it and put it on the critical list. Then after realizing there was a backorder on the processor and OS he said he couldn't even reorder the T61 with my original config because the 64bit OS and processor isn't an option anymore.

 

maybe with all their problems, its good to not get these first run batches :|

 

It is encouraging that there is only one part on backorder and that they'll have it this week. Where did all this information come from?

 

Ugh. I wonder if we're all gonna get screwed in some way.
