    ... yesterday.

A loaded x301 (4GB RAM and all the cool options) with a 3-year onsite warranty, an additional 3-cell ultrabay battery for extended operation, and their sexy ultraslim combo adapter - both absolutely necessary for us road warriors.

Total cost, taxed and shipped: $1,532.74.

All I have to say is, even with the X301 being a bit long on the tooth, it's still a phenomenal machine; I got to play with it a bit 2 months ago and loved it. I don't play 3D games or do desktop publishing and so on, so the CPU really isn't an issue for me at all.

    What a deal, eh?

This will replace my aging X61s, and is coming instead of my natural pick (which would have been the X201).

x301 has plateaued in terms of price, it doesn't seem to drop any further this, maybe that is how much it costs Lenovo to produce them.

I think you did good !
I bought my X301 new last year (November) for around that much. I'm so glad I bought it when I did, especially since Lenovo will no longer be making them :(

The X301 is a fine machine. Most things don't need much CPU power. Congrats.

X301 is a classic so is the X300 now with the sata2 limit removed. But i like the X301 better due to the 4500 MHD gpu and the displayport, which means you can view 1080p movies without sweating the CPU that much.

Either way OP did a good job in snatching up the dwindling stock of brand new X301.

Yeah, it IS sad isn't it? funny thing is, I was actually waiting on the sidelines to buy it at the normal pricing once it got a refresh, but then they announced they weren't going to make them anymore and then this deal popped up when I was leaning back towards the X201 due to the "oldness" issue.

I fell in love with the x301 two months ago when I got to play with it at a client site. I've been an x-series devotee from several generations back, and have been buying them every three years (when warranty expires) like clockwork, but have always desired a 13.3" form factor (14.1" is just too big). Unfortunately the X300 came one year into my current 3-year cycle (on the X61s) so had to wait for this summer... then I decided I'd wait a few more months for the refresh... well, no more waiting.

I really am finding myself looking forward to this laptop, more so than I ever have.

I absolutely love the X301 and have come close to pulling the trigger a few times. It's almost the perfect machine..almost. There's only one thing keeping on the fence and might knock me to the other side. The combination of only taking 1.8" hard drives and not accepting a hdd in the ultrabay will make it very expensive for me to get decent performance and a reasonably large capacity until ssd prices drop in at least half of what they are now.

Fair point, although you can find a gen2 160GB Intel X18-m for $300 or so these days if you look hard enough. I thought that wasn't too bad, especially considering the savings on the machine itself. In many ways, Lenovo made the decision easy.

I thought the x301 was also SATA II? is it SATA III? how sure are you? if that's the case, I am going to spring for the Crucial C300. How do I find out?

X301 can only operate at SATAII speed, while the X300 was originally delivered from the factory with only SATAI capability, but a new modded bios enabled the SATAII mode on the X300.
