Hey guys, I actually just joined this forum but have been browsing through it as a guest for the passed week.
Anyways, I just ordered the Lenovo Y470 yesterday (August 22nd), and the expected ship date is August 31st.
The specs are:
i7-2630QM CPU
8GB PC3-8500 ram (1333MHz)
Nvidia GT-550M GPU
500GB HDD (7200rpm)
The price was $849 and after tax, and environmental fee it came up to $960.16 total (Canadian dollars), which I thought was a decent price considering similar 14" notebooks with lower specs cost this much. Also, they're doing free shipping and handling at the moment!
However, I'm skeptical now because I read through posts on the Lenovo community forum and I found there are a lot of issues with this laptop. Such as, people receiving broken laptops, terrible customer service (I knew about their horrid service but didn't know they were that bad until I read through the community forum), and issues with games only running properly on battery.
So if you're interested in this laptop, be sure to read through that forum to see what you might expect.
Now I'm wondering if I should cancel my order and wait for the Asus U46sv, since the U46sv seems to be getting nice reviews.
So maybe some peopel who bought it can shed some light, I read through 20 pages of the y470 and y570 thread, but I want only information on the y470.
Thanks!

Imo, you only read posts with complaints about their y470, because no one would ever post that nothing is wrong with laptop.
My y470 came with only one problem, some constant fan noise. However everything else checks out ok. -
I've had no problems with my Y470. I got the i5 version. My laptop wasn't broken when I got it, and I haven't had any problems with games. Its been able to run anything I've thrown at it. Although, the only games I really play are Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Great I play TF2 too, how high does the temperature reach when you play? Have you ever played more than 3 hours on it before? -

UPDATE: Order status changed from "submitted" to "processing".
-
UPDATE: Date of shipment changed from August 31st to September 2nd.
-
My Acer AS3820TG was stolen today.
I just ordered the same config as you for 849 +tax CDN. with a coupon for $250 off [CAPY434825].
Will advise on ship date.
Cheers -
Good to know you settled on the same model.
I also used a coupon that I found from google that took off an additional $250.
I'm hoping it'll come in on September 6-7, latest September 9th. -
UPDATE: Status is now, "Invoice shipped on 30/08/11 UPS SCS (ASIA) LIMITED"
-
Hey guys, how's it going?
I got mine actually (with the same specs) a couple of weeks ago for which I wrote a review already but I cannot post any new-thread for some reason, any ideas? I'd like to share it with you. -
Did you confirm your account through your email?
Or you can post your thoughts here. -
UPDATE: Package arrived at Toronto Lester B. Pearson Airport.
edit: nvm that was the estimated date so its either on the plane heading here or still in China.
-
Shipped today from China and estimated arrival to B.C. is Sep. 9!
Good thing I have my old (modded) Acer laptop to hold me over. -
UPDATE: UPS tracking shows that an unforseen event has occured so the delivery might be delayed.
EDIT: The package arrived here in Toronto but got shipped back to Shanghai. -
-
Yeah mine is about 22kg but I see 6 pieces so each piece is about 8lbs, I guess it's about right with the laptop itself, battery, and PSU... right? lol
EDIT: I'm afraid of the package moving back and fourth, I mean it must be going through some difficult times. I hope it'll still work alright after all that moving around... -
UPDATE: Oh great the package came back to Toronto, I think I might receive it on Wednesday or Thursday, if not on Tuesday if UPS works on Labour day.
-
UPDATE: The package arrived at one of Lenovo's offices in Toronto, so my y470 should come in tomorrow, hopefully.
-
Hope you get your fun tomorrow, man. Mine seems to coming Thursday.
-
UPDATE: The notebook came in today, and I'm on it right now.
I'll post up the pictures in this thread or in a new one for potential buyers. -
Cool.
Did you get a new tracking number from when it landed in Canada?
Mine says it landed in Toronto but I don't know when it will get to BC.
Let's see some pics! -
Yeah I used the tracking number from the Lenovo website instead of the one from the email, since the one from the email is the entire package that includes all the laptops that are ordered I think.
Kind of lazy to post pictures, but I'm enjoying it so far.
The only thing that annoys me is the screen resolution since the icons on the desktop appear huge even when maxed out and the static noise from the earphones even after I switched to line out.
The overall built is solid and sturdy, the hinges could be tighter to give it a better feel so I'll give the built a 8/10 (since I never used a really high end laptop before and that there's always room for improvement). -
My Y470 shipped with the screen size at medium, 125%. I don't know why, that's not the default size, according to the display setting. Go to Control Panel > Display, and choose Smaller - 100% and apply the setting. This should fix your big icon problem.
I don't know about the headphone problem. I don't use headphones. I have that headphone jack plugged into my SONY Audio/Video Control Center for use with my Panasonic Plasma TV output. There is no "noise" issue with the jack under this configuration.
It took me about 4 hours to explore/change all the various settings to what I wanted. This is my first Windows 7 machine, and I had a learning curve that I had to adjust to. All my other systems had XP, or older 95/98 software.
I love my Y470, but please be aware that Lenovo has optimized your machine to achieve their fast boot up in Windows 7. Most of the problems I've read in these forums, have to do with users trying to "reformat" or make major changes to their drive structure, which screw up their laptops. Lenovo lock down these systems pretty tight, to deny non-OEM changes to protect their "enhanced experience". As long as you work within "their" rules, you won't have any problems.
I will admit that Lenovo's lack of adequate support for hardware/software issues continues to be a big thorn in their side. Their forums are filled with users asking for help, and unless you are a very squeaky wheel, you don't get any grease. The only thing I would recommend is that you create recovery disks ASAP.
All in all, I'm very happy with my Y470. I'm not a gamer, rather I bought this laptop for the performance, and the media connectivity.
