What are you all using now? Do any of the new thinkpads "feel" like the original X1 (rock solid-ness w/ matte rubbery texture)?

The 3 year warranty (depot) on my X1 (original low res w/ gorilla glass) expires this fall. I kept my previous thinkpad for ~5 years, and I'm not tech savvy enough to be able to make repairs myself, so I planned to extend the warranty on this machine. I sent it in for the first time last week for a hard drive issue, and to my surprise they replaced the keyboard, fan and motherboard...So, I guess I don't NEED a new laptop- just have the itch.

Perhaps I should just get the extended battery, extend the warranty and wait 2 more years? The new X1 Carbon (haswell) and macbook pro 13 (retina) are really tempting....
