My story's kinda a long one so bear with me. when I first received by T61 around June 2007 I noticed that when I played games the fan was pretty loud. It didn't really bother me though because I usually play with my around-the-ear headphones so it drowned out the sound. Near the end of the year the fan had gotten louder and louder and around the end of December the fan died. So I send it in to the depot and they send it back in about a month, around late January.

Recently over the past couple of weeks I've been trying to play ANY game and the laptop shuts down after about 2-3 minutes into the game. It even shuts down within 2-3 minutes when I play Return to Castle Wolfenstein! THAT GAME IS OLD! Same things also happen with Source Games like Half-life 2 etc.Although in some games it runs for maybe half an hour and then dies. Another symptom is that the fan is running constantly blowing warm/hot air.

So this morning I decided to run the PC Doctor DOS test and it shutdown during the test........at first I was worried and now I'm just getting annoyed and pissed off. I hope someone can help me, but since it's Saturday most people are out and about while I'm trying to fix computer! I hope someone can help before I call up Lenovo because their tech support/depot fixing times are horrible, turn around is way longer than 7-10 days as listed in warranty, and what pisses me off even more is that this computer's under warranty until June, 2010! So I just called and their sending me a box that I'll get on Tuesday.

So I was just wondering if I was just one of the unlucky ones and Lenovo's service is usually better than this or if most people have had the same experience.

Where are you located? 1 month is way to long, but I have seen it take that long or returned in as little as 3 days. The only thing I can think of is that they did not have that part in, forgot about it while waiting for the part, or a combination of both. What you need to do is give them 5-7 days and then call if you still have not received your laptop back by then.

I've had problems with Lenovo Tech. Support as well. I recently purchased the X61 through work and it has been blue screening daily so they sent me a hard drive. Replaced it and it was still blue screening so they ordered a system board that was backordered a week. Once the board came they sent a technician out and he thought it was because there was a compatibility issue with the hard drive. He left with the system board and it immediately started blue screening again. I call and the technician said he sent it back and I needed to order it again. When I called they said it was backordered AGAIN, they said to call in 48 hrs., I call and it was backordered for 7 days. Called again in 7 days and now it's back ordered another 10 days. The technician on the phone said they can't even guarantee it'll be here in 10 days and it can keep getting pushed back. I've had problems with this laptop since the day I got it and Lenovo support is definitely not helpful.

It would help a lot if we knew where you were located; I live in Southern California, and the service I've had from Lenovo and their Memphis repair center has always been stellar.

Sent my T43 in to depot repair twice, and total turnaround time from my first call to them to having my fixed T43 in hand was 3-4 business days both times (would have been 3 days both times, but I missed the package the second time and DHL had to re-deliver).

I'm in Philadelphia, PA and the problem seems to be finding my system board. We have an on-site warranty but the problem is getting the part. They can't seem to locate a system board for my X61.

Ahh, onsite. With onsite they use qualxserv and the problem with them is they have specific independent contractors within your area that they use and some of them are just lousy while others are great. Call Lenovo and ask them for the qualxserv number, call them directly and requests someone else. See if that helps.

They sent me the restore CD set for T61p in about 2 business days.
