(Am I allowed to link an ebay auction here?)

Most of you guys are getting your t61's no less with it in both places, I can't believe this t60 just says "thinkpad" on palmrest and lid. Weird. Looks like it's going for cheap. Looks kinda cheap too. Just a mental thing though.

Must have been a business order or something.

It just a friggin' sticker. Sure it was great when IBM thinkpads were really IBM thinkpads, but that's not the case. The current IBM stickers are just to wean people away from IBM as they become more accustomed to Lenovo. Apparently that works for some people.

Today, Thinkpad = Lenovo so it might as well just say "Thinkpad" or "Lenovo"

I still prefer three colors logo. Never seen the new logo directly though.

The classic IBM logo matters bunches to me. I think it's a hawt logo, the tri-colors look awesome on a black background, and the retro interlaced look is bang'n. It's more than just the looks though, it's the history, the nostalgic and sentimental value behind having an IBM ThinkPad. You could say it’s a similar respect that devoted owners have for their Apple machines. Since the T60 series was in fact designed by IBM, it deserves the IBM logo. It will be a sad day for the IBM ThinkPad when both the IBM logo and ThinkPad name are removed. I've already planned ahead for this apocalyptic day by going all out on the T60p near the end of its final production runs.

Btw, someone really needs to post the link to this T60 missing the IBM logo.

People, that's the new ThinkPad logo, so you better get used to it. I sure hope my T60p that shipped from Lenovo yesterday comes with the classic IBM logo.

assuming the poor quality of the newest models, lenovo should be shame to put IBM logo on them.......
T61 deserves only to be called lenovo T61, i would agree with that even if i own one of them

I never thought of Thinkpads as a brand unto themselves. I always considered IBM the brand and Thinkpad was a product they produced. Why are they removing the classic IBM logo that so many love? The Rover name didn't get dropped when the chinese purchased the auto "brand." IBM is the brand...why kick it to the curb? So strange. I know it's made by Lenovo, but I want an "IBM Thinkpad" with the tri-colored badge. I guess 80's retro is dead.

Probably because Lenovo didn't purchase IBM, just their thinkpad division. Lenovo has no choice but to phase it out within the five years per the terms of agreement.

I agree though, why I was not pleasantly surprised to find a t60 w/o. Thought the badge would be a sure thing on a 60. Guess not.

It's just a sticker for crying out loud. You can buy IBM stickers on ebay for about 2 bucks a pop.

On mine it's not just a sticker, or I wouldn't care that much. You'd have to grind out the inset, ymmv.

Well, Lenovo has every right to take off the IBM logo. First, Lenovo BOUGHT OUT IBM on its computer section. Second, I think it looks better without the IBM, however, that's just my opinion. Don't shoot me for that either. -_-

no rumors here, have T61 here, used to work with previous models, and nothing to compare about the building quality
anyway, coming back to this debate, people buy because they want ThinkPad, IBM ThinkPad, Lenovo ThinkPad or Compal or whatever stupid brand name ThinkPad logo would make no difference......
Looks like a lot of users get "secured" by seeing the IBM ugly logo around. It makes feel them part of the thinkpad history, and not of the new chinese-low-quality-rebranded generation

Is the sticker going to ruin the quality of the laptop? My T61 has the 'Thinkpad' badge... I don't care, cuz I know I have a laptop that is as good as the one that had the IBM badge on it... Makes no difference...

The damn thing is coming out of the same factory as before Lenovo bought them... So why quarrel about this measly little sticker? :S

Compal plant now, with the t61.

Still good either way I'm sure. I just like the looks/colors of "IBM" vs "thinkpad", just how I like the looks of all black vs most other notebook colors Just aesthetics. Just personal preferences. No one's wrong here.

actually it's a different factory this year. Recently moved from the thinkpad plant in shenzhen to a compal plant near shanghai.

used to be assembled in mexico before, and in japan long ago.

the good thing about when they were made in mexico, was that you could buy a thinkpad in the US and take it to canada without any duty. (because of NAFTA)

cannto do so now that they're made in china

well found them on ebay, in case anyone else was looking for it.

now to figure out how to cleanly get the current one out. the problem with the new-style logo is that the "T-Series" is in black and cannot be easily seen, so you are left with an indentation that looks like it's blank underneath "Thinkpad".

My T60p arrived yesterday from Lenovo, HK and it has the classic IBM ThinkPad logo. Thank God. I was a little paranoid it may have had the new "trendy" logo but I lucked out. This Flexview display is very impressive, but Vista runs slow as Christmas on 512MB of memory. Still waiting for my 4GB Kingston.

    Not having the IBM Logo!!

It kind like buying an expensive BMW, Mercedes, Porshe or Lexus without the Logo.

Believe me if these are the last of Big Blues Signtures, then you definetely what the Lettering. I bougth a new ThinkPad just for that reason.

I wanted the "IBM ThinkPad" Logo.

I only wanted it new with the Logo!!

    Sircas!

    ummm.....

my t60 has the "thinkpad" logo on it in both places. it was sold 6-29-2007.

here are some HORRIBLE cell-phone pics of it. i'll try to upload some proper ones later.

the new logo is actually quite nice - although it may not look it in the pictures. the "thinkpad" text is in brushed-aluminum with a gloss etched red dot, as you can see.
