Hello,
I have a T60 that is out of warranty that I would like to get repaired. Does Lenovo have an official repair center that I can send my laptop to to get fixed? Or would I have to rely on smaller private businesses? I would prefer the first route because I imagine they would have more experience and support.

Lenovo can repair it, but it will cost a good amount of money. Sometimes its better just to buy a whole brand new notebook rather than to repair and expensive part. Give Lenovo and a call and ask for a quote.

Said with as much precision as possible, whats the matter with it?

Ya if it is a dead system board then it is probably not worth it to fix (the part cost is huge). I would probably look for a new laptop.

It could be anything wrong with it. The worse part of it is that the commercial peops won't do much better than we have.

I'd say unless it's a FlexView model it probably isn't worth trying to save. The cost of a replacement MOBO can be insane (a new T400/T500 would be comparably priced).

T60/ 61 motherboards cost close to $500 on average, and I suspect labor cost for the repair will rather high as well. It may indeed make for sense to buy another. You can always look at Lenovo outlet - though they are not the best organized retailer online and I will strongly recommend looking at the forum for the ways of making sure you do indeed get what you want from them.

The way Lenovo support works in my country, you send in the laptop for repair, they do problem determination and give you a quote for the repair cost. If you decide it's too much (such as the cost of a new motherboard) they charge you a fixed (not that unreasonable) amount for the problem determination.
Edit: if you do decide to send in your T60, take out the hard disk before you send it, Lenovo doesn't need it to do the repair. That way if you decide they should scrap the machine, you still have all your data if you put the hard disk in a usb attached enclosure for a new laptop. -
why don't you buy an extended warranty? I'm pretty sure Lenovo has warranty options for machines that are already out of warranty.

"If your machine is out of warranty, OR you have an existing warranty service upgrade (WSU) or maintenance agreement that is about to expire, then post-warranty maintenance (MA ThinkPlus and Lenovo Care Services) is right for you. " -
I stand corrected. So, depending on the model, $169 will get you any repair you may need. Well, if you're more than a year out of warranty, it looks more like $388. There didn't seem to be any fine print linked to that page. It might be interesting to see the exact terms.
