Purchased T61 from the Outlet and need some help getting finer details on what it is I bought.

I was hoping that the confirmation email would list out in detail the components, skus, etc (like I did when I first configured, confirmed but cancelled an earlier order).. but allI got was the following.

    Qty Part No. Description
    1 645L3A2076 6459CTO
    12/28/07 $1,096.21 $1,096.21

Does this mean I got a T61p model? Can anything be learned from the part no?

Thanks in advance. Can't wait for delivery - and much thanks to this forum and thinkpads.com - tremendous help for newbies.

    Yes it's a T61p. Just put "6459CTO" into Google and you'll see. You have the 570M 256MB. That's what makes it a T61p. Congrats, ;).

MUCH THANKS to LaptopGuru - it is exactly the answer I wanted!
(I'm going to thank Arkit3kt in advance also for his clean install guide - been reading that and definitely following it.)

Wish the Outlet provided this kind of detail - would make the buying / selection process easier. I never understood the Outlet's pricing structure either - some configs are better values than others, but without the finer details its hard to quantify sometimes.

So I did a little digging with regard to my machine and it looks like I got a 128mb video card instead (42W7652) - I thought the default for p models is the 256 version.

And the hard drive is Seagate (hoped for the Hitachi). Lastly. can't tell if the lcd is Samsung or LG.

You have a LG-Phillips panel and ALPS keyboard.

Also the 6459 does not always mean its a T61p. There's a 6459 model that can be configured with the 140M card which this one is apparently.

If you want to check yourself here's the page of all your parts.

From there you can tell your panel mfg, keyboard make, what vid card you have (T61p or T61) using the following info:
    On 14.1", 42W7650 = 128Mb 570M (T61p), 42W7649 = 140M (T61).
    On 15.4", 42W7653 = 256Mb 570M (T61p), 42W7652 = 140M (T61).

btw you can find all this out (parts lookup) on the outlet page of every model there without ordering.

Yeah, their "new" outlet system is a lot worse than their old one. What's the point of having people click on a stock photo of each laptop and shown a vague description of its config.

The old spreadsheet style was way better. You could view all the details right there.

But the old site didn't provide whether a certain machine is still in stock or not. Most of the time, you call and get a CSR and simply find that what you want has already been out of stock. I think the new site sort of updates the stock real-time.

An additional plus is, you can purchase it on-line and if you go through Fatwallet, you can earn additional 10% cash back (yes, the outlet purchase still earns Fatwallet cashback). For the old site, the only way to place an order is call....

True enough that the site updates close to real time - I learned quick to just go and place the order ... the bookmarked items I set aside to think over disappeared quickly, and thankfully the stock 'refreshed', saw a config I was happy with and placed my order.

Of course, there's no reason why they can't combine the best of the old way and the current ...

Some of the systems don't have descriptions for some of their parts. For instance, this system doesn't specify its optical storage, video card, etc.:

Can you figure out which components this system has from Lenovo's parts lookup page?

Also, those who have ordered from Lenovo Outlet, is what you got consistent with what was shown in the specifications?

Thanks in advance for your help.

From the SKU number the serial is L3B3459 , CTO model is 6459. Input those in the parts lookup page and you'll be shown all the FRU numbers with enough info to find out the lcd make, the video and others.

    I tried this SKU: 645L3B1430

    Its specs page says:
    Video Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB), nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M w/ WWAN, w/ AMT

But according to the parts lookup page, it has 42W7653, which I guess is 256Mb FX 570M (T61p) for 15.4". So which video card does it have?

Would help to include the link to the item on the outlet but anyways I dug up the spec sheet:

Notice it says it has WUXGA screen (all wuxga's are T61p's by default, ergo they all come with the 256Mb 570M Quadro without any exceptions).

Upon further digging...the FRU for the screen is 42T0408 which points to a Samsung WUXGA panel.

So the spec sheet and the FRU for the screen correspond but not for the vid card. It seems the spec sheet is displaying inconsistent info (can't have 140M cards on WUXGA thinkpads) and the parts look up page is showing no inconsistensies (WUXGA screen and 570M).

Based on the above, I would say its a T61p with WUXGA hence the 570M card by default.

Kept hoping that the est ship date was 'over-estimated' and I would get it sooner .. but the opposite happened. It got pushed back another week, possibly two.

I don't understand the delay - this was an Outlet purchase, which meant it's ALREADY BUILT, and possibly HERE in the States (not China). Called CustServ to find out the reasons behind it and they were not much help.

Maybe some hope... I Ordered on Dec17th - Given a Dec 24th ship date. On Dec 23rd the ship date changed from the 24th to Dec 31st... They actually shipped it on the 21st and I received it on the 27th... The order status still shows shipping date as Dec 31st. I've had it up & running for several days

    Good Luck

Cool...I've been looking at the outlet myself to see about getting a T61. Overall, does it seem to be a good buying experience, and would you recommend it?

buying experience sucks-you can't get a straight answer-but the savings are great.
if you order from the outlet, take a deep breath, order, dont bother checking back, be happy when you get it

    I agree with watchtower7 100%.

The buying experience has not been positive at all. But the savings are enough in my mind to prevent me from calling them up and cancelling.

it's harder to cancel your order than ordering it. They just want your money. Ordered mine and received it within two weeks. Tried to get it replaced because the laptop has been defected. Take them a whole month. Finally i get someone to really help me. You have to have patient with those people. Keep calling until someone could help you.

I just had a pretty good experience ordering from the outlet. Ordered a closed box T60 FlexView SXGA+ w/ 100GB 7200 drive, T7200 CPU, 2GB ram, ATI X1300. Price $1,040 plus tax. Order date Dec 17. Estimated ship date of Dec 24, which was later than I was expecting, but fair enough in Christmas season. On the 24th, the ship date changed to the 31st, which was not really unexpected. Then, on the 29th, status changed to "shipped on Dec 28th". But the funny thing is that UPS showed up at my door on the 27th (I didn't know it for a couple of days later because I wasn't at home during the day... I would have of course had I known the computer had shipped, but whatever not a huge deal). So, their original ship date was just about right, and everything really worked out fine... but the status they give you online is either out of date or buggy (or just a manual process prone to errors or someone being out of the office on Christmas Eve or something).

Anyway, machine is exactly what I ordered and seems to be in perfect shape. I feel like I got a great deal for what I wanted. FlexView screen has none of the flaws recently reported (dim, sparkles, etc). Ordering process seems pretty amateurish in this day and age, but I have no quarrel at all with what you get for your money.

I was searching for information regarding my recent T61 purchase from the outlet. I got one with a WUXGA with no mention of a video card. My specs look like this:
41W6442 42W2609 FRU COVER HDD ASM 15.4 YES
42T0360 42T0361 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES
42X3997 42T0408 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES
    42X5036 42W7877 PLANAR FRU YES
    44C4239 42W7877 PLANAR FRU YES

I know that it was mentioned that all WUXGA T61 come with video, but if I am reading my specs correctly it appears that I don't have one. Am I right?
