    Hey Guys,

Recently my T60 has been acting up quite a bit by overheating whenever I've plugged in my external webcam or when I watch HD video content. Usually it never used to have overheating issues/problems but more recently the temperature readings are unusually highIn certain cases if I use the webcam too much the machine fan goes nuts and eventually the laptop shuts down. Since I can hear the fan, I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Any thoughts on what may be causing the problem?

    Thanks :)

    Check the heatsink
the fins may well be full of dust
    this can cause this

Ok will do. Any guides regarding how to disassemble the laptop to access the heatsink and what implements I should use to clean the fans? I've checked other threads where thinkpad owners reported overheating and another solution given was to apply thermal grease.

I also downloaded Thinkpad Fan Control to get an idea as to what kind of core temperatures the CPU and GPU experience at idle and at max power. The following are the temperatures at idle:
    CPU 79°C (0x78)
    APS 50°C (0x79)
    PCM 46°C (0x7a)
    GPU 75°C (0x7b)
    BAT 48°C (0x7c)
    BAT 43°C (0x7e)
    BUS 49°C (0xc0)
    PCI 59°C (0xc1)
    PWR 64°C (0xc2)

When I use the Smart (fan control config) mode the fan goes into overdrive to cool the machine with some fairly high RPMs.

    Any additional thoughts?

I had problems with overheating on my T60 as well. When I opened it up, the fan was clogged with dust. I cleaned that out and applied some Arctic Silver to the heatsink. That helped to lower temps but it was still overheating. I then installed RMClock and undervolted the CPUs, which ultimately solved the problem for me.

if it is idling at that temperature it usually means the heatsink/fan is clogged, thermal paste needs to reapplied, or that the heat pipe on the heat sink is no longer working.
