    Greetings one and all.

My trusty T420 is still running strong but, in regards to video editing, is getting long in tooth.

I'm looking at purchasing a P51. One because I like Thinkpads, and second because it has an ExpressCard slot (now apparently deleted from the P52). Due to some legacy hardware peripherals that I use in editing I need something that has firewire capabilities. My T420 has the firewire port, the P51 does not, but I can use an expresscard adapter to add it.

I know I want the 4k screen, But I have not settled on the CPU.

Am I correct in believing that, unlike the I7 processor, the Xeon processor does not have onboard graphics?

And, to conserve battery, when not needing the Nvidia card for regular tasks, are you able to switch it off and just rely on the I7's graphics capabilities?

    TIA

Go to the Lenovo Thinkpad P forum and browse through. If the P51 model is still having unresolved, random BSODs (like mine did), I would stay clear of that model.

Thanks for the input. Is it a I7 processor and, if so, are you able to disable the Nvidia cad and run of the CPU's graphics processor alone?

A lot of us weren't so lucky. Did you read the threads about what other owners have had to go through?

Can confirm that I've had no trouble with my P51 (w/i7-7700HQ), or with the P50 before that. The keyboards aren't as great as they used to be but they're still decent.

Thanks for the idea, that is something I will look into as well.

I did, seems to be a crap-shoot for sure. Disappointing.

    Disappointing.

    Thanks for the input.

Thanks so much for that. I was SO excited to finally own a Thinkpad. *sigh*
