    Hi guys,

I posted this in the hardware section, but maybe a TP-er will see it here - do you know if the P9700 will work in the T400 ? my concern is that lenovo isn't offering this CPU as option, so the Bios release does not have it's cpu id string...?

Or maybe somebody already tried this?

    thanks,
    cosmin

    Hi there!
If you have already posted someplace else about this topic, I suggest you to ask a mod to close the thread. Cross posting goes against NBR Forum Rules. Thanks.

Maybe they dont offer that CPU on any system because they dont have them available? I remember you that it has been very short time since the Montevina Plus refresh came out, and most laptops offering these CPUs are still on pre-order.

Chances are, that CPU will work in the T400; Lenovo likely just wants to get rid of its stock of "older" processors before shipping with these new ones.

I can confirm that the P9700 works on the T400, with the latest BIOS.

I have just installed it a few minutes ago. :D

awsome!, last night I pulled the triger myself on one...

do you have any pointers for the replacing procedure, like any of the parts more tricky to take out and put pack ?

    thanks,

In terms of trickiness, watch out for the right screw that bolts the keyboard bezel to the frame.

It is shorter than the left one and if you screw the longer left screw into the right hole, it will stick out and you will end up damaging the LCD cover when you open it.

The thermal paste seems to be quite a mess when you remove the heatsink. Clean off all the factory applied paste, including those under the black plastic sheet surrounding the Intel graphics core (peel off the plastic and reapply it after cleaning). Apply a fresh layer of paste and screw the heatsink back firmly, but not overly tight till the CPU core cracks.

The mobile CPU core has no heat shield, so it can be fragile.
