Hello,
The x300 has a 800 MHz FSB and comes with PC2-5300 667 MHz RAM.
Would the system be able to handle PC2-6400 800MHz RAM and would that be a worthwhile upgrade?
By the way, what is the difference between PC2-5300 and PC2-5400 RAM - both are listed as 667 MHz?
Is it safe to assume that the system would not be able to take advantage of the new PC3 DDR memories (like PC3-8500 1066 MHz)?
Thank you!

DDR3 memory is a different form factor altogether I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I'm running 4GB of PC2-5300 in my computer right now and get a 5.9 in WEI's memory score. Honestly I don't think you'll see much of a difference except in a benchmark.

the X300's memory bus is limited to 667 MHz so anything faster (PC2-5400 or PC2-6400) will simply downclock to PC2-5300 speeds. buy whatever is the least expensive since all three will run at exactly the same speed, even in benchmarks.
DDR3-8500 modules are have 204 pins (instead of 200 pins) and are not compatible with the X300. -
Erik,
Why do you say the X300's FSB is limited to 667 MHz when the spec is listed as 800 MHz on Lenovo's site?
Thanks. -
that was an early morning error. i meant to say memory bus.
PC2-5300 or PC3-6400 RAM for x300?
