    Battery life of 1:57 is terrible. I'm also interested in a X61.

    Hmmmm, pretty good feedback. I wish they would say something about the screen. I need a new laptop with a GOOD screen for Photoshop.

    What battery did they use, the 4, 6, or 7 cell?

    They used a 6 cell I believe (LaptopMag has a review of the R61 with a 6 cell and got very similar runtimes) and it was the DVD test, so I'd imagine with a 7 cell, normal web browsing, word processing would be more like 3 hours and change, which is still, decidedly, pretty bad for a business machine.

    There were some comments on the Lenovo blog about the battery life of the new laptops and it seems like the nVidia card may be to blame. Apparently with integrated video, the T61 should do a bit better than the T60.

    My only beef with the T61 is they downgraded the graphics power from the T60. My initial thought is...why?

    And if the new graphics is causing the poor battery life then that further disappoints me :(

    It's a little disappointing they mentioned nothing about the new cooling system or if it helps with anything. No mention of the new lid design either. I can't believe that battery life, they must have had the screen brightness all the way up and processor at full force to drain it that fast. I should have a system tomorrow and will report my own findings.

    We really need to get our hands on some Santa Rosa laptops.These first reviews seem disturbing.

    Yes, to say the least. AnandTech pretty much said that Santa Rosa was useless, Robson was detrimental to performance, and the GMA X3100 is the same as GMA950, ie absolute crap.

    CNet seemed pretty positive though, they gave the Gateway models pretty decent battery life numbers, and the R61 was not that bad either. The numbers are pretty low, but that is because of the nature of their DVD battery drain test. Its just about the minimum life you can expect out of a laptop (The Sony TX got just under 5 hours with an extended battery, just to give an idea of the nature of their test).

    I don't understand how a laptop with such poor battery life can be awarded with Editor's pick. I mean, one reason we buy laptops is because we're on the road. If it's always going to be hooked to a power outlet and sitting on the same desk, well battery life becomes irrelevant, but so does the function of a laptop.

    Wow, is it really t61? The IBM logo is still in it. I thought they will get rid of it by the time T61 released.

    You are not exactly comparing apples with apples here:

    Lenovo was tested with the 6-cell battery and 2.4 GHz T7700 (top of the line).

    Dell was tested with 9-cell battery and 2.0 GHz T7300 (at the low end);

    Gateway was tested with 12-cell battery and 2.2 GHz T7500 (mid range)

    Thank you for clarifying this. It is starting to seem more reasonable.

    I'm looking forward to seeing your tests. An in house review is always best. Plus we can get you to test stuff for us. :)
