So I've had my new T61 for about a week now and from the moment I got it, I felt like there was some discoloration on the palmrest (on the right side in the beginning and now on both sides). I'm fairly careful with it and wash my hands before I use it and I know that over time it will be covered in oily fingerprints, etc. but is it normal for it to be this way immediately?

it shouldnt discolor, but it might smoothen out (get glossy) from the friction and oils. just use it, the palm rest piece seems cheep, so replacing it shouldnt be a problem...if youre that anal about it
-
did you just call him "anal" for complaining about his palmrest discoloring after 1 week?

Thanks for your response. I believe you're correct, the proper word should be "becoming glossy", but necessarily discolored. So there's nothing I can do, huh? I really like stuff to stay nice and it bothers me a little.

Could you try and snap a shot of the discoloration? while some of the keys on my T60 had started to get shiney from where I type the most, the palmrest still has the same texture from day 8 (lol palmrest replaced because of touchpad button noise)

Yeah, wow. I want to see a pic of this. I get on mine with less than clean hands all the time, palmrest still looks new. I'd be disappointed to learn they downgraded the plastic on the palmrest.
Sure it wasn't like that from the start? I could see a defect out of the box, unfinished surface or something before actually wearing that texture away w/in a week.
Sorry to hear it regardless. -
Sorry I wasn't able to take any pictures of it - it's kind of subtle and I couldn't get them to show up in the pictures), but I did call tech support and they're going to send me out a new one and I can install it myself (I really didn't want to mail it off over a small cosmetic thing like this).
I have to say, my first interaction with tech support went very well.
