I have been doing a lot of research and now i am wondering about the hard drive. How many partitons are there? Are there any besides the backup partiton? How big is that back up partition and is there anyway to get rid of them and have one big c drive?

There are two partitions. The recovery partition is about five GB. You have to disable it in the bios to see it, then you can get rid of it. The recovery discs just put it back the way it was. You can use Partition Magic or gparted to combine the partitions.
