Due to the delay, I canceled my original order from Lenovo and ordered from MWave.com, Mfg. no 766416U
Just to let you guys know -- if you don't want to wait, there are several pre-configured systems:
766416U -- 7300 2G, DVDRW, 1GBx1, Vista Business, Fingerprint, AGN, 1GB Turbo Mem, 6 cell, NVS 140M, blue tooth -- 1459$. Cheaper than configured in Lenovo, even with discount.
766417U -- 7300 2G, DVDRW, 2GB=1GBx2, Vista Ultimate, Fingerprint, AGN, 1GB Turbo Mem, 6 cell, NVS 140M, blue tooth
Os are 32 bits with those systems. However, I'm pretty sure that 32 bit os and 64 bit os (vista) shares the same keys, and I'm sure there's a way to install 64bit os on those machines.
All comes with 3 years standard depot warranty.
I talked to the Lenovo presentative prior to cancellation and he told me that we can discuss the details of upgrading warranty/insurance (no accident protection) when I had the machine.
One other advantage is that most people does not have to pay tax on most of the online stores.
|o| I sacrificed the 160GB and 7 cell battery. However, you can always buy xtra at Lenovo.com, and I suggest a Drive bay battery.
the only thing that disappointed me is the camera option. Well, in the early order, I don't have it anyways.
Waiting for another 14 days? no way. Plus, overnight shipping only 37$ at mwave.com
Before I make this decision, I was also considering the Asus F3SV (A1 for 1440$), or even G1S -- better graphics power. However, thinking about battery life (70 min for F3SV in DVD test vs 110min for T61), size, and screen (T61 got carbon-fibre lcd case), extensibility (Lenovo T61 should have a 9-cell battery later, and a drive bay battery already available), and build quality, ...
And I have checked that Quadro NVS 140m is supported under linux by the latest NVIDIA beta driver.

Problem for me is my order is a way better deal since I used student/fatwallet/memorial day sale.
I am just going to wait it out though, estimated dates seem to mean nothing so it could ship any day for me -
For me, I'd take customization. You're gonna be stuck with he laptop a lot longer than you are gonna wait for it to ship (hopefully, lenovo has a bad reputation for this, hehe, that's why I went with compal), so I wouldn't want to have something I don't want.

Plus still it is not that long and you just take it into account for a laptop I will own for a few years. I know I do not need it for another 2 months or so and lenovo should easily ship by then (knock on wood).
Patience vs. customizability
