Does anyone have the T61 15.4" with 9-cell battery and the Pelican 1490CC#1 DELUXE case. According to the specs it looks like the T61 will be about 1/4" too deep with the 9-cell battery attached. My guess is that it would fit snuggly, but I'd like to hear from someone who has tried it out.

It would definitely fit in the 1495 model, but the specs sound too huge compared to the 1490.

I suggest that you consider writing (calling) Palican to get the most definitive answer regarding the size compatibility :

My view is that if you have the answer directly from the "horse's mouth" and if things do not work out, you have a valid basis for a refund / replacement.

Thanks for the advice. I e-mailed Pelican and asked the same question as i did here. This is the response I got:

"You shouldn't have any problems fitting your computer in our 1490 cases. Please contact our stocking distributor for all your Pelican needs."

So I got my Pelican 1490CC#1 Deluxe case today!!!

First, to answer my own question it does not fit with the 9-Cell battery. Well, you CAN force fit it. When you insert the T61 w/ 9-cell attached it's a tight squeeze and it causes the molding of the tray to bow outward. I'm not comfortable with that. I think it will cause problems with to much pressure on the battery.

That's OK. I already had it made up in my mind that I would just get a 6-cell battery if it didn't fit. So, I'll just have to pick up a $45 6-cell battery from e-bay. The 9-cell won't go to waste. I'll store the 9-cell in the compartment below the laptop.

This case is a marriage made in heaven for a T61 15.4" with 6-cell battery!!!

T61 sits flush with the top of the bottom compartment.

    I love this case!!!

This thing is water-proof and crush-proof!!! I think it is a very nice looking case considering it is built like a tank (just like the T61).

That Pelican staff who replied to you had obviously misread your enquiry. You clearly indicated that you wanted to fit a 9 cell battery attached (not a 6 cell).

Since you made your requirement clear but it turns out that you need to force your machine (with the 9 cell battery) into the compartment, that Pelican staff has misrepresented.

This is the sort of problem I was apprehensive about; which is the reason I suggested you seek answer directly from the source. On the basis of the misstatement that Pelican staff made to you, you can seek refund / replacement if you wish to.

BC- Thanks for your thoughts on this...

I already had my mind made up that the 9-cell battery might not fit based on the specs and my measurements. I decided ahead of time that I wanted the case even if that meant I would have to buy a 6-cell battery. I have learned a long time ago not to take cust. sales reps word as gospel.

Actually, I left out one detail. I purchased the case off e-bay for $103 (brand-new). Coincidently, the guy selling it lives in the same city as I do so I was able to inspect it prior to paying and I avoided shipping charges. I think it's a great deal for a great case. The cheapest you can find this case on-line is $152. The money I saved will buy a 6-cell battery.

I hope somebody enjoyed the pics!

Given that you were cognizant at the point of purchase, then all seems fair to you.

Yes, those photos are helpful; they fill-in what was left out in the other post you cited above --- ThinkPad inside the case, that is.

    All the best then.

    Not necessarily.

Here's the thing: sales staff don't wanna read your inquiries, if they can possibly avoid it - they wanna sell stuff.

Thus, the insipid You shouldn't have any problems is par for the course.

Well, yes, that's the problem. They didn't take time to properly read my inquiry or this person didn't take time to find the correct answer.

The most correct answer (since the measurements I gave them were larger than the spec allowed) would have been "You probably will have difficulty fitting you laptop with 9-cell battery installed since the measurements are out of spec."

I knew that it probably would be too tight of a fit going in. I'm not upset at the rep. I love the case. Nothing that removing the 9-cell or using a 6-cell battery won't cure :)
