Does anyone know if there is a significant performance difference between the tablet and regular x61 models (or at least between the x60 models)?

I mean, I realize there will be some difference, but can anyone help in characterizing that difference? Is it negligible for the majority of users or noticeable?

I ask because I'm in a situation where I can see some uses for the tablet, enough to warrant purchasing it, but my main requirement remains performance.

    Thanks.

Doesn't the tablet edition use low voltage CPU's?

It really depends on what you're going to do with it. Doing mundane tasks such as word processing or surfing the web, you won't notice the difference. I'm going to assume you're just going to be taking notes with your tablet, which does not require much CPU power.

What about extensive multi-tasking? For example, having a couple Word documents open, a few web browser windows (each with multiple tabs), a media player, etc. open at the same time.

Depends on the media player and what the browser is doing. Having multiple application running will require more memory....these applications running processes that require calculation means more need for processor power.

You should be fine with the Low Voltage Core 2 Duo in the tablet. Definitely have 2GB of RAM though.

people have very low expectations for their computers nowadays. Even a 200 MHz Pentium II with 128 mb ram can have a couple word documents open, a couple of web pages and a media player. Don't you think a 1.6 GHz dual core processor with 1 gig of ram would be able to also?
