Hey guys, when I run Adobe Photoshop CS5 Student Edition with Optimus I seem to keep getting these errors and Photoshop can't detect my Quadro 2000M. When I run the W520 in discrete GPU only mode, Adobe finds the Quadro 2000M in Edit->Preferences->Performance and no issues arise during my photo editing. The problem is that I am usually on the go and am not always able to rely on outlets. If anyone knows what to do or if anyone has resolved the issue, I'd love to know. (see images below)

Mine works fine in Photoshop CS5 (the full version) with Optimus and the 1000M. I never did anything to it.

Do you have the nVidia Verde drivers or the original drivers that came with your W520?

I currently have the Verde drivers, but if my memory serves me correctly, it worked fine on the original drivers too.

Have you tried 3D rendering in Photoshop w/ Optimus? The 3D rendering doesn't work with my GPU when in Optimus, rather it uses my CPU to render. But in discrete graphic mode, the 3D rendering is done w/ the GPU (no issues with OpenGL).

I'm not sure, I only use Photoshop to touch up stuff. If you have a short guide or something to rendering, I can try.

    You can render a simple 3D cube by opening Photoshop>>Toolbar>>File>>New(or Ctrl-N)>>your own resolution>>Toolbar>>3D>>"New 3D Shape from Layer">>Cube.

If you are greeted by the image below when in Optimus, then you also have the issue:

I didn't see the square option in my menu, so I did a sphere and cube instead. Both worked fine. This is with Lenovo drivers (reinstalled the drivers yesterday because Optimus wouldn't switch nicely for SCII).

My driver version is 8.17.12.7533 w/ a Quadro 2000M, my issue still persists (Photoshop CS5 crashes everytime when I try enabling "OpenGL Drawing" in Optimus).

I ordered my W520 w/ 4GB, then I upgraded it to 16GB. Does that somehow have any relation to my issue?

It could be an issue with the 2000M, I'm not sure because it works fine on my 1000M.

So, no one else on this forums has this issue? I really don't like Photoshop crashing all the time, but I also want the battery life on my W520.

im afraid im no help, I would guess it is Optimus drivers still. it was a very common issue for me when I was trying laptops with Optimus and in the end gave up trying to use it for pro apps. have you tried Lenovo's forums or Nvidias support?

I had this issue for close to a year in in the end returned every laptop with optimus that could not bypass the IGP's MUX.
