You must buy a SSD with 7mm height. The two you listed will not fit the X230 primary bay. In Newegg.com, search on "SSD 7mm".
I would recommend the Crucial M4 256GB.
You can add another 4GB RAM stick (204-pin DDR3 1600). This one is good.
-
does anyone have a recommendation if i want a 8gb (4gb x 2) ram?
-
Consider this pair.
-
I would recommend the AData gaming set. It's low power with low timings and has great ratings. I have a set in my x230t right now, and it gives insane memory scores in the WEI.

I just added another 4GB 1600MHz CL11 1.5v stick to it. Realistically, the CL9 vs CL11 timings isn't going to make a world of difference.
You will be fine. It should not take 6 days from China to NY. -
Would have been better if you got low voltage ram, just like jjesusfreak01 suggested. My x230T came with Samsung DDR3 1.35V 1600 1x4GB.

hey guys what do you think about this? i looked around and thought this was the best deal. i'm prime member too so its a plus

It usually takes about that long. My brother's X230 was ordered on 07/26, estimated to ship on 08/01, and indeed shipped out then. It arrived at the door on 08/08. Those times are in line with how long it took for my X120e and T500 to build and arrive as well. For reference, I live in the California Bay Area.
Since all Lenovo packages to the US arrive in Kentucky for customs, I'd expect that there would be no difference in shipping time (or at most, one day). -
I don't have the tablet version, and mine came with 1.5V RAM.
-
Hm, it only took 3-4 days (date line) for it to get to DC.
-
bump! any thoughts before i pull the trigger? i saw 2 x 8gb corsair vengeance for sale on newegg for ~100, but not sure if i need that (just use it for school work but use photoshop and photoediting software as my side-job while studying)
-
Thats pretty weird. I thought they would use the same spec ram for x230 and x230t. Anyways if you were replacing both at the same time, going for low voltage would have also been a good idea since Ivybridge fully supports them.

Count yourself among the lucky ones

Now's the time to jump on that SSD!
256GB Samsung 830-Series MZ-7PC256N/AM 2.5" SATA III SSD Laptop Kit (w/ USB to SATA Cable) = $189.99 FS - Slickdeals.net -
Thanks for the link. This is a great price! I ordered one tonight, and hopefully it will ship tomorrow. Since their warehouse is in NJ, I hope it shouldn't take too long to get ton NY.
I upgraded to 3-5 days shipping for $4, just in case.
More updates:
My Corsair memory (1600, 4gb) from Newegg has arrived today.
I called Lenovo earlier today, and they said they are "sorry" for the delay. I asked why there was a delay, and they said there was "unforeseen demand for the x230." The man stated that it will prob. ship tomorrow, and will come from China.
I still do not know if it will arrive in time. I probably have to arrange with my parents to reship the laptop to my school, if it arrives late. -
thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions on memory upgrades. just pulled the trigger on this thing:
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10
couldn't resist price was great -
Of course, my laptop has STILL not shipped, and will most likely be delayed again.
Big pain.
-
If you are okay with a little risk and want an 830, just get one from Amazon Warehouse Deals. I snagged one this week for $193. They are usually just customer returns and work just fine.

Thanks for the tip; I already ordered one from Buydig, and it was already shipped out this afternoon via Fedex.
My Laptop, however, still has not been shipped. -
When I ordered my laptop and ordered RAM, I am not sure if it was fate or if I timed it correctly but I got both on the same day. I turned my PC on with the standard configuration to get some benchmarks of the stock and then added my mSATA, which I already had, and the RAM.
-
When did you order?
I ordered my brother's x230 last week Saturday and I just got word that it's on the way to the US this morning. ETA 15th. My T430 hasn't shipped yet though

Sometimes thing have a way of clearing up quickly.
-
Well, it is already 8/12, and my status is the same as in the picture in my last post.
I think if it *really* has been shipped, I would have at least received some notification about it. It most likely has been delayed now. -
Officially delayed. Now allegedly shipping this Tuesday (more than a week than was originally promised), and will definitely miss my move-in date. I just hope I get it before coursework starts.
Now I need to start worrying about how I will ship it to campus. When my parents get it, I think I will instruct them to ship via USPS priority, with delivery confirmation and insurance for $1000+. However, the major problem is getting a big enough box for it. -
why not tell them to ship using the original box that it comes when shipped from Lenovo?
-
Hey, you bring up an interesting point. I suppose I could just ship it in that box, but I am worried about damage along the way. Does Lenovo already ship double-boxed, or is it just single boxed?
Additionally, what will be the best way to ship? UPS? Fedex? USPS? I was thinking that USPS Priority would be the most cost effective (but probably still around $20). Is it worth it to get additional services like signature confirmation, insurance, or even certififed mail? I am concerned about what will happen if I ship it to campus and it gets lost/damaged. Could I still tell Lenovo that it was "damaged?" -
Why dont you use ups ground with signature confirm and no insurance? Thats how lenovo ships them anyway, just single layer box. I dont think there would be any damage since thats how they are shipping them from china.
Even if you use usps, I would ship it with signature confirmation and no insurance. The insurance is going to cost a lot to cover $1000. If you trust your package sender and receiver I think it will be fine. If you are moving into a dorm, there's usually an office that signs the package for you. Or you might want to contact ups and figure out prices if available for intercept or reroute. -
I have no idea TBH as I've yet to receive my thinkpads
maybe the others can help? -
I think it should be fine shipping it in the box that Lenovo delivers it in. I'll probably just ship it via priority + signature confirmation.
As for the laptop, it has been delayed a 3rd time. The "estimated shipping date" changed from 8/6 to 8/10, then from 8/10 to 8/14, and finally from 8/14 to 8/16. At this rate, I will never get my laptop. Should I just call and cancel, because this is getting ridiculous. -
My SSD arrived today from Buydig. My memory from Newegg arrived last week.
I called Lenovo, and they confirmed that my shipping date changed for a third time to 8/16. I asked if it was possible that it could be delayed yet a 4th time, and they said yes.
They offered me a 5% compensation though, which is just $40.
My parents suggested that I simply cancel the order and buy another laptop. I really like the X230, and would rather not cancel, but this is getting VERY annoying. Besides, I don't even know if I could use the memory+ssd on another laptop. -
Lenovo does not shipped double boxed. If it doesn't come in by the time you go back to school, you should have your parents double box it before they ship it to you.
My x230 was ordered 7/18. Delivered 8/7, so just over 3 weeks. -
Sounds like you had quite a bit of bad luck--my brother received his X230 exactly 2 weeks after ordering on 07/26. I'd take them up on the 5% compensation (which will cover re-shipping costs, at least), and also push for expedited shipping to cut down on any further delays once it ships.
No need to double-box. Lenovo's packaging is good enough to withstand normal shipment wear and tear. -
Any thoughts when lenovo going to be selling the x230 with windows8?
-
but then wouldn't they charge you a cancellation fee/restocking fee?
TBH you should have ordered earlier if you knew you were going to need a laptop for school. As should have I
. I'm stuck to using my parent's laptop for the first 2 weeks or so while I wait for my T430 to arrive.
-
Funny thing, I also ordered my x230 on the same day as you did and the ship date for mine also changed from 8/6 to 8/10 and then 8/10 to 8/14 as well and it still hasn't shipped yet. I also happen to have the same part number as you do too (2306 CTO). I'm starting to wonder whether the delays have to do with that part number or maybe I'm just overthinking things.
-
Hey, AsuraSky, was your computer delayed again? Mine was delayed from 8/16 to 8/18, which is the fourth delay.
I called Lenovo today, and the representative said that she was "very confident" that it would ship today, and that there would be no more delays.
Well, of course I have the worst luck, and it was delayed a 4th time. The big question is, when will it ACTUALLY ship? -
Mine has been delayed a couple times as well. Today a rep told me it will ship on the 24th. Also, that the delay was due to an "LCD problem." Previously, a rep had mentioned that Lenovo was experiencing difficulty meeting an expected demand for the x230. Sounds like they didn't have enough IPS panels on hand.
-
I called them yesterday (8/16) and a couple hours later it was delayed to 8/18 on the order status screen but then today (8/17), I got an e-mail saying the the order had been shipped along with a tracking number. So I looked up the tracking number of UPS's website and it turns out it left China on 8/15 and it was already in Kentucky today with an estimated delivery date of 8/20. It might be possible that your order already shipped but the order status screen wasn't updated to reflect the change.

Hey thanks for replying. Here is just a quick update. My parents received the laptop on Tues, and shipped it to me on Wed. I still have not received it, and I suspect there may be issues.
Priority mail from NY to NY should not take so long. Yet, my tra cking information has not been updated.
Here's the number: 9410803699300034438031
Does anyone know if this is fine that there have been no updates today? -
Why not call the Post Office. They're the most likely to know.
-
I see that it is delivered to Ithaca, NY 14853.
Are you a Cornell student?? I had several packages shipped to 14853 when I was a grad student over there.
