I noticed today as I was cleaning the LCD screen that the covering on the webcam looked slightly scratched. Checking it in better light I could see it is a film covering the lens and camera insert. Is this supposed to be removed? I would think if the film can get scratched or dirty this easily it is meant to be removed because even though the cameras is only 1.3mp in resolution the plastic has to be obscuring the lens to some degree.

I'm no expert, but I would say yes.

Its very hard to scratch the camera lens in its particular location. Remove the plastic and call it a day. There is no need to worry about scratches as you would have to try pretty hard to screw it up.

After taking it off I am sure it was meant to be removed. It actually gets a slightly clearer image with it off. I have only had the laptop for 2-3 months but it reminds me of a cellphone I had for over a year before I realized that there was a plastic film still covering a couple areas of it
Thanks for the reassurance -
It took me two months to realize I can pull that plastic sheet off. Everything is much much clearer though.

now it makes me wonder whether or not i took the plastic sheet off lol....

You'll know if you took it off or not. I knew I still had it on because it dog-eared a little in the corner plus it had little scratches on it.
