    Please HELP with wireless!

    Guys I made a mistake and I have installed the automaic updates from Lenovo.
    Now I can't connect to my wireless network.

    I have a T60P with XP SP3 dual boot the Linux.

    IN Windows I cannot fond any wireless networks.
    I am trying to connect to the profile that worked before...
    The Access connection status tells me the radio is powered on but not associated.
    The thinkadvantage status shows green bars.
    The MAC address is all zeros.
    There are no wireless network visible whatsoever.

    HOWEVER, when I boot to Linux, I have the wireless workink OK, meaning the HW is fine.

    I have no Idea what to do. Please help?

    Start > control Panel > device manager > select your wireless adapter, double click, go to the DRIVER tab, choose ROLLBACK driver

    It did not work. No rollback driver was available. Which is weird: the automatic updare should have saved the previous one.
    Maybe I should try ad of to have windows manage the wireless instead of AC?
    How do I switch to it? I dont see the aplet that does that. And if I shoitch to it can
    I go back to AC?

    Go direct to Lenovo's website, download the correct driver, and reinstall it. See if that works. Also, if you're using TP Access Connections, download the latest version and install/reinstall that too.

    EDIT: P.S. I usually do uninstall TPAC and let Windows manage WiFi. I've found that Windows tends to do better than most third-party solutions, and you aren't wasting resources on one more piece of bloatware.

    I did download the latest driver and installed it but no cigar...
    (BTW, it was the same as the update installed.)

    So if I should unistall TPAC what should I do?
    - uninstall via Control panel? But I don not see any windows component
    to manage wireless from XP once TPAC is gone (usually there is an applet in the the Control panel, and maybe TPAC mad it "disapear'?)
    So then after unstalling the original Windows wireless manager will be reainstalled upon rebooting?
    I am jut being paranoid here......

    All you need to do is uninstall through Add/Remove Programs. Windows' wireless manager will pick up where the Lenovo software left off.

    You can also download and reinstall TPAC at any time from Lenovo's website.

    So, this is my network Odyssey:
    (1) Installed TPAC and other upgrades and after that in XP neither wired nor wireless network could have been found. The drivers, and the HW looked fine.
    (2) Booting to Linux everything was OK though.
    (3) In XP rolled back all downloaded drivers still no network.
    (4) Removed TPAC completely, rebooted hoping Windows will handle the network - still no cigar.
    (5) Put in an XP installation disk and "repaired" the current installation (I did not want to wipe out everything.)
    (6) Downloaded and installed all current MS hotfixes and other needed Windows upgrades.
    (7) Rebooted - STILL NO NETWORK, The driver and the HW though were there and looked just fine.
    (8) Out of desperation I have uninstalled the LAN and the wireless driver and rebooted in hopes the Windows will find the new hardware and reinstall the drivers properly. IT WORKED!!!

    SO: it is possible that I simply should have done just (8) at the very beginning and my problems would have been fixed. Who knows...

    I had trouble with getting my wireless to work after a driver update too. Here's some things I learnt that might help.

    On lenovo's website, the software downloads have a readme.txt file. Make sure to read this as one piece of software may require you to install other software to get it working. For me to get wireless on my Lenovo (IBM) X40 I had to install: Intel wireless driver, access connections, hotkey driver, thinkpad power management driver. Also the order in which you install them seems to matter.

    This post in the forums on Lenovo's website explains the order in which to uninstall and then install all the software. Hopefully it helps you out.

    1) Uninstall the Intel Wireless Driver from Control Panel
    2) Uninstall Access Connections from Control Panel
    3) Restart the system
    4) Download and install Hotkey driver
    5) Download and install ThinkPad Power Management driver
    6) Download and install Intel Wireless Driver
    Please follow these steps to install the driver
    Download and extract the driver
    Browse to C:\drivers\WIN\WLANINT2\XP\Apps\x32 and click on iProInst.exe to install the driver
    Please note this is a critical step to fix your system
    7) Download and install Access Connections

    And that is why I cannot stand Lenovo software (love the laptops, though). Any time you have to jump through all those hoops to get your wireless card working is wasted time--especially when it is the Lenovo update that messed you up to begin with.

    Yes, all those parts have been downloaded and installed during the automatic system update part. I did exactly what the Lenovo system update program told me to do. Still, I had to go through the whole hoopla the get things work again - I have not re-installed AC though.
