Are you using access connections or windows to manage your connection?

i dont think i can, the internet works so slow that sometimes the page doesnt load up. everyone elses laptop works but not mine,
what else can i do to speed it up ? -
Your whole system is running slow?
-
just the internet is slow
when i ran the defrag/clean-up, it took a while to finish
but opening programs etc. is okay, runs good. -
Ok, because i'm a little confused from you previous posts. If your overall system is running slow, ie taking a long time to load then you need to run diagnostics on your hard drive. If its ONLY your wifi then you need to update your wifi drivers first and make sure your not anywhere near a 2.4GHz signal that will interfere with your G band.
If you dont know if your using access connections or windows, more than likely your using Windows to manage your connection. -
all the other specs i have on the laptop like 512mb ram , 1.6ghz proc. is okay right ? or is it too low ?
should i buy more ram ? -
The combination is slow and i'm sure that 40G HDD is a 5400rpm no?

how do i run diagnostics ?

im going to run the lavasoft ad-aware, hook the laptop to the modem, update the wireless driver, and check if it runs faster,
wish me luck!!! -
It sounds like you have a spyware in your computer. Spyware is computer software that is installed surreptitiously on a personal computer to intercept or take partial control over the user's interaction with the computer, without the user's informed consent. Get an AntiSpyware and scan your computer. There are some for free on the internet.

If you still have the hidden partition you will want to press F11 couple of times on the Thinkpad screen.
Once RnR comes up select Continue->under troubleshoot select diagnose hardware->it will ask you to reboot, do so and if it does not automatically reboot use the red restart button on top-> once rebooted and when you see "1" for the option press enter-> select diagnose and select run normal for all tests or select fixed disk and "run" for hard drive only. -
i ran the lavasoft ad-aware software....i had a few malwares/trojans etc. tired to quarantine it....either it takes a long time to process or it wasnt working. so i shut it down. turned it on again....now there is an error loading the operating system.
im gonna try to load windows xp again. update the wireless driver. run diagnose. try some Anti-spyware and see if it takes me anywhere
thanks for helping me guys, id be lost with you!!

If you're able to restart Windows, you should make getting rid of the malware your priority, rixen. Once your machine is clean, then worry about updating drivers. Try Adaware again, and Spybot or any other antispyware program you may have installed. Usually, at least two antispyware programs are needed to properly clean a system anyway. Also, if an AV is installed on your machine, you should run it, too. Good luck.

If you ran Lavasoft Ad-Aware and it detected several issues and upon removal it didn't work properly here is my best guess:
The Virus/Trojan/Malware etc. has bound itself to explorer.exe or another vital system function of Windows XP. This is a popular tactic to ensure you cannot remove the infection because Windows will lock up to prevent a program such as Lavasoft from destroying the OS. (You simply cannot delete vital system functions)
Your best bet would be to:
1) Attempt to repair your OS (Replaces system files)
OR
2) Perform a full reformat (I'd recommend this one to be sure you get rid of the infection permanently)
Please note that before you reformat you should backup your data, while booting up if you can't get into Windows try pressing F8 and access safe mode so you can get to your data.
As soon as you finish reformatting get an anti-virus such as AVG, the free version is much better than nothing!
