I had a lot of errors that were not resolved.
Anyone please help me. I spent 5 days and tis is my 6th dsy to solve these issues. I tried my level best. But no luck. PLease Please Please help me

    1. I don't get the battery meter on the task bar.
    2. I don't get any audio at all.
    3. No volume buttons working and no mute button working.
    4. The middle button above the track pad (used to scroll down pages) is not working.
I love to use the trackpoint but with out this button working its hard for me to read the pdfs.
    5. The Screen blinks at the start up while I'm logging into windows.

I went mad and downloaded all the 97 drivers in the lenovo website and installed all the 97 drivers but still no luck.

Is that going to cause a problem?
Can you please please please help me in this.

Otherwise I have to go back to the GREAT VISTA.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Satish.

With the meter I had the same problem. I had to go to power options and go in every setting in there. I did not modify and the battery meter showed up. I gave up on XP because my laptop was performing poorly and I was forced to go back to Vista. Hope you find a solution with XP.

sounds like you both need to search of how to do a clean install on XP.

mine, unlike yours, works awesome, with all features available + some extra, such as configurable blue thinkvantage button, programmable fan speed, overclocked video card, and so on ..

you don't have to install all drivers found on the Lenovos page, but only those that your system needs.

Maybe you can tell me what I missed out...

    1. Copy Original XP kit on HDD
    2. Download SP3
    3. Download INTEL SATA drivers.
    4. Integrate SP3 and SATA drivers with N-Lite
    5. Extract bootloader with ISO buster, put booloader in new slipped kit, burn with NERO.
    6. Boot from CD,format everything, install Windows XP SP3 on SATA successfully.
    7. Update, the whole thing, install Asus XP drivers, Office 2007, CS4 Master, check the programs to see if they work and ...
    8. Keyboard was lagging in word. I installed and reinstalled the ATK driver 20 times.
    9. My laptop was like a snail. It had a 30 second sleep period and then it would start opening apps.
    10. Updated Intel Sata Storage.
    11. No change, windows was using a 2001 driver.
    12. Format C:\ put Vista back.

Overall my U6 was slower than a 5 year old Prescott on XP. I had to put Vista back.

The only thing I did not try was to install XP Sp3 in compatible mode. Why would I do that when I can use my SATA in enhanced?

Mate, next time when you decide to be cocky and patronise, bear in mind that some people here know what a computer is. Having said that, you should do some reading on who you are talking too next time.

Dude, it's not the ThinkPad user's problem that Asus has poor drivers for your model. Go complain in the Asus section! Or you might aswell contact Microsoft to join their marketing team

@satishdsc: What is the modelnumber of your T61? It should be in a form like this:

    7664-16U

It's located on a label on the underside of your laptop. Do NOT post your Windows s/n!

My T61 7664-16U is working great on XP. It took me some time to figure out how to control the Wifi using Fn+F5, but I got that working too. It's a lot faster now and runs a lot longer on the same battery. To the trashbin with Vista!

When you post your modelnumber we can exactly tell you what drivers to install and what not to install.

@miro_gt: Do you have some info on those extra's? :)

Sounds like you both need to take a lesson from what was the second largest computer company in the world.

Dont do what my house mate does and run anything but the software the was made for that operating system. Whether you know it or not you've got more pulling power with a single vendor solution.

OK, this is the guide that I have developed for my laptop. I haven't posted it on here since it's kinda for advanced users and I'm kinda lazy to post all the links for the drivers, but I hope you can find those on Lenovos site. The one driver not there is the UAA HD Audio, but a quick google search will do the job on it, lol.

for step 2, look into the swtools folder (this step is only if your XP installation CD was made from the i386 folder on your hard drive - I had to create installation CD too)

you can skip the first step also if you already have installation CD.

you can see my spec. in my signature, if you're interested of what I have.

the extras come from programs such as:
    - tpfancontrol - controls the fan speed
    - rivatuner - overclocks the GPU
    - search for thinkvantage button zip file on here - I don't have the link but this zip contains 2 files that control and customize the blue button. Mine currently does "log off" thought I can program it to do anything, such as start specific program for example. If you don't find it, I guess I can zip those and give you the link later

    Wishmaker,

I don't know what you know about computers but obviously you're the one that has problems with clean install, not me. And just for comparision, where you wrote point number 7 "install Asus XP drivers", I wrote 3 pages on how to install thinkpad drivers .. so I don't know what you did and what you did not.

don't make me come fix your computer please
