    What is the difference between the two? I am knew to the pc side but need to make a purchase within three weeks. My 17" Pwrbook will handle main video editing and T42p or T42 will be backup (will purchase card for firewire capability) and other connectivity to pc world.

    Please direct me to any posts that covered this subject. IBM site is mostly geared toward regular players in the pc world. I want to play too!

    Try going to this IBM link, then find the file "tabook.pdf" and download it. This file has every thinkpad configuration made from every model.
    Basically The difference is the T42p has more higher performance components and usually they all have a 3 year warranty.
    If your going to get a T42 or T42p I think you will find it better to use it as your main amchine and the powerbook as the backup cause quite frankly the powerbook is less powerful than either one of these[ :)]

    Much thanks! Ouch that remark about outdoing the Pwrbook hurt. But I must dmit that my associates that owe T41s (which alarmingly cost more or equal to my Pwrbook) crunched numbers and apps without once choking! Speed demons! I had to get my hands on a pc but no desktops.

    The info both of you supplied more than answered my question. Thank you again.
