I have pretty much decided that the following thinkpad will best suit my needs as a graduate student studying architecture. The price quoted as $1,847.23 is still out of my price range however. If anyone has advice on how to get this system for a lower price or has run across a comprable system for less I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Got mine on ebay. Just make sure you buy from a reputable seller.

You did try the educational site, right? The price seems OK already, and the only way to get it lower would be to get it with EPP or used on EBay.

the only way i can get an epp price is if i know someone who works for ibm correct? the machine i'm looking at doesn't seem to be on the edu site, or it is but for some reason it appears to be more expensive than when i when to the regular website and "configured my own" notebook. i'm going to call them about it. the cheapest t42p i saw on the edu site was about $100 more than on their regular site. i could have made a mistake, their website confuses me.

I almost got badly burned by a con artist on ebay when i last tried to buy a thinkpad there; that's when I learned that some people have managed to steal someone else's positive feedback to look legit.

anyway, whom can you trust there, in your experience, please?

    thanks!

I bought my ThinkPad from MacUniverse-Planet. They were very professional. In the future you may want to start your own thread. Good Luck.

That seems a little expensive, but go for because in IBM/Lenovo terms that's good deal

I found the lowest price on my T42P by doing a little research on www.cnet.com. Also, I picked up a batterygeek external laptop battery at www.batterygeek.net for only $169 which is giving my T42P an additional 7 hours of run time per charge. Best of luck to you.
