I have a T30 which I am planning on replacing once the new T series comes out but I have been informed that the hard drive is failing. I typically back up "my documents" only but I would like to back up the complete system in the event everything crashes. A few questions:
1.) I only have a USB 1.1 port and the estimated backup time for my system is 3+ days! Is there anyway to install an esata or firewire card in the pcmcia slot to speed up the file transfer?
2.) Is it worthwhile to purchase backup software (e.g. acronis) or is using the backup program in XP sufficient?
3.) Any recommendations for an external hard drive?
Thanks!!

1) Yes, you can. I reviewed it some time back, it is a great card.
2) Download a trial version of Acronis True Image. And no, I don't trust any MS backup utility.
3) Anything that you can buy today with an eSATA port. As in what is available in a store like Best Buy/Circuit City.
Why do I say that for #3? Because your drive is dying and there isn't much time left. Usually you have VERY little warning that a drive will fail, so speed is of the essence. Do NOT use that laptop until you are ready to back everything up. -
Thanks Greg - I am having the PCMCIA card you recommended and an acomdata 500gb external drive overnighted to me from newegg!
Please help with backup issues...
