Hello,
I would like to purchase a X220 laptop sometime before Christmas.
This is the configuration that I came up with last week
![]()
These are some of the options that I would like:
- Core i7 - for the USB 3.0 port
- Windows 7 Pro - I can use some of the Windows 'Pro/Ultimate' exclusive features.
- IPS screen w/ Webcam
- Fingerprint Reader
- Bluetooth
- Upgraded Intel based Wifi card
- 9 Cell battery - with what I know now, I think the additional battery life is worth the increase in dimensions
I plan on buying a 'Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866MHz' kit & a 'Corsair C400 128GB' SSD -- that is why I chose the cheapest hard drive and memory options.
I know about Lenovo B&N, the outlet, & the official site. It seems like the last time I checked, Lenovo B&N offered the best price [when configured with the above options].
Can anyone find a better deal than the one I configured above? Are there any Black Friday / Christmas sales that you think I should wait for?
Thanks for the help!

this deal doesn't seem all that awesome. i can get better price in Australia.
-
this is about what i paid...total it came out to like 1075 something like that, after taxes, which came out to a lot here in Idaho..
-
Another option would be to get an expresscard USB 3.0 card. I think they're less than $15 on eBay. That seems like a better idea than forking over almost $300 for a CPU that for most users has little marginal value. I say get it with the 1x4GB and see how it goes. If you need more memory, you can always upgrade later.
-
You should be able to knock $150 off of that price if you have an Amex:
AMEX $150 Back when spend $999 or more @ lenovo -
I'm pretty sure Lenovo will bring out some coupon deals for the holiday season so I would wait out if you can, I don't think you need to wait for long as Thanksgiving in the US is coming soon and if I recall, Lenovo tends to give out coupon deals generously during this period.
-
Getting the core i7 for the small cpu increase and usb 3.0 doesn't seem to really seem worth it IMO. If you want to save some cash, I'd stick with the core i5, but still, the total you're paying is a good deal.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Ya I agree with the above that the i7 just to get USB 3.0 is not worth it. The price difference from the base i3/i5 is not worth it.
-
I am planning to purchase a X200, the AMEX offer which I can take is only valid until 11/19. I am not sure if there will be better coupons around Thanksgiving time which could provide more savings or not. Anyone want to comment on this?
-
I don't think any here has a crystal ball. If you think the price is good, then buy. At some point it will probably sell for less. It's only a matter of when.
-
These laptops price will drop eventually, if you don't need it you can purchase it at a later time.
-
Picked up an X220 today for ~$900 after the $150 Amex cashback promo.
IPS, 6 gigs, 160SSD, webcam, 9-cell.
I'm happy. -
&
Which Lenovo site did you use?
Thanks. -
the $999 limit for $150 Amex cashback is for after-tax right?

Came to $1078.18 after tax. Applying the $150 Amex discount listed in this thread:
Lenovo thinkpad X220 or T420 + i5 + SSD for $850-900 after Amex 150 off 999
So it will cost $928.18 total. Not the absolute cheapest ever, but for an SSD with a lot of RAM, I'm pleased. The Amex discount involves some hoops with facebook and making sure you find the $150 offer signup, but after the headaches, it's worth it to me. -
Nice, SSD and IPS=WIN for a laptop
!
Congrats! -
What's the build time for lenovo like around Thanksgiving time? Since currently there is no coupon on the x220, I will wait till the 17th, would I be able to receive it in the first week of December?
-
So, I would not count on ordering a laptop direct from Lenovo and expecting to receive it in under 2 weeks.
On that note, how accurate are estimated ship dates? It currently shows 11/18 but I'm having my doubts seeing as how my credit card isn't even charged yet... -
Okay, I placed an order last night, now keeping my fingers crossed.

Here is my configuration
Intel Core i7-2640M Processor (2.8GHz, 4MB L3, 1333MHz FSB)1

The final price is £1,092.23 with 10% coupon (which is equivalent to 1736 USD) so I haven't pulled the trigger yet, so expensive -
@doanh baby, if you're in the UK you can sign up to Quidco and get an extra 6% cashback on that purchase equating around 16% off the RRP.
-
Lenovo will be coming out with refreshed laptops next year.
-
Of course they will, when Intel releases Ive Bridge.
-
There was a core i7 2620 X220 on sale at lenovo outlet for $234.
-
I ended up ordering a X220 last week. i5 2520 w/ 9 cell battery. All the other specs are the same as I listed in my OP.
Have to wait ~4weeks for the assembly because of a hard drive shortage. I am replacing the 7200rpm disk with an SSD as soon as the laptop arrives, so I wish I didn't have to wait. -
I was beginning to think that I hadn't got a great deal on my X220 (which I did get for over $900 below MSRP) working with rep on main Lenovo site. The web site was showing maximum discounts of $650 to $750 so I was quite happy to get an individual quote. I had specific requirements too that the web site would not let me select.
Now I see this one in the outlet for $1,444 Lenovo Outlet - ThinkPad X220 New - Discounted Laptops, Cheap Laptops, Refurbished Laptops, Discounted Desktops, Cheap Desktops, Refurbished Desktops
