    Folks,

Having some major trouble installing integrated display drivers on T400 on Windows XP. I managed to install the 'hacked' version of the ATI drivers for the discrete card, however I simply can't install the integrated drivers?

I've tried installing the chipset drivers from Lenovo's website here

I also went ahead and tried installing the Intel Graphics card drivers directly from Intel here without any luck.

The error message that I get is - "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit"

I was under the impression that T400 uses Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset (GM 45) and I do have this along with the proper drivers - so why is the setup installing complaining ?

I have installed the Intel chipset drivers and it went through just fine - it's just the graphics card drivers that are giving me problems. Any thoughts? Really started to get frustrated with this :( .

    Thanks....

Please disregard. I found the solution - apparently needs tweaking of the video card options in the BIOS menu - if you run into the same problem and need help, feel free to PM. Thanks...

So can you switch cards in XP without booting?

No, you can't switch (option doesn't exist) and I guess there is another piece of software available for Vista users only.

Now, I've another problem - whenever I plug the laptop into AC power (when running on integrated graphics card option), my screen blinks for a while - I've no clue as to what is causing this problem!

Whenever I'm on discrete option - I don't run into this problem.

I removed the ATI discrete card drivers, but still have this problem when running on integrated graphics.

    Any ideas?

Lenovo's blog indicates that they are also trying to solve this thing. Probably we have to wait for a while.

If you don't mind - can you please share a link where users are seeing this problem? I couldn't google this problem at all! Hopefully, this will help out other frustrated T400 Win XP users.

P.S: I completely formatted my computer and went ahead and installed Win XP. Unplugged the AC power and screen does not 'blink' or 'blank' out (seems like everything freezes - even sound). Soon after I installed the integrated graphics drivers from Lenovo's site - bam, the problem is easily reproducible. Therefore, I have narrowed it down to the integrated drivers itself. I believe while I plug/unplug AC power - it tries switching between the discrete and the integrated card (even though the BIOS is set to integrated since Win XP doesn't support this with Switchable graphics support disabled) and that causes the momentary blackouts for whatever reason.

So it appears I am having the same issue, but I am not so clever as to work it out. I'm running XP Pro (factory install) on a T400 and have switched to integrated graphics in the BIOS. That said, once the laptop boots up, I get notified of new hardware (the graphics card) and prompted to install new drivers. No problems at all with discrete graphics.

    Any tips are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Felix

    boot into integrated graphics
and follow instructions to install intel driver

the new hardware is the integrated graphics, not the ATI card

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this isn't working because it can't find a driver to install...I've installed the Intel display drivers with no success - I have every indication that they've installed successfully, except I still have yellow exclamation points by my video controllers.

Could you document what steps you changed in the Bios? Also could you detail some of the issues you were experiencing? Were you experiencing any flickering/shifting of the screen???

    Thank you in advance...

I have the same problem. What do I need to do in the BIOS setup?

    Thanks Tai
