    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T9300 (2.5GHz 800MHz 6MBL2)1
    Genuine Windows Vista Business 6412
    14.1 SXGA+ TFT
NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (128MB Open GL)
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
    80GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm4
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim5
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (supporting Centrino Pro)10
    Integrated Bluetooth PAN
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery60
    8891: Express - 1 Yr Depot Warranty7
    $1246

From newegg I plan to buy the following, replacing the 80GB HDD and adding 2GB og ram for a total of 3GB:

    G.SKILL 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory Model F2-5300CL5S-2GBSQ
    $32.99

    Western Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
    $149.99

    All in all = $1429

Would I be better of investing in the 15.4 = 1680x1050 and an additional 128mb on the GFX yet comprising size, weight and battery life?

Edit: I will be using it mainly for Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. Writing quite a bit and intensive Internet surfing.

Without knowing your needs, it's kind of hard to assess whether it's a good fit.

    You are right.

I will be using it mainly for Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. Writing quite a bit and intensive Internet surfing.

    (1) Your order is way overpriced, cpp should get you around $1000 before tax.
    (2) Since you get vista 64, why not invest in 4 GB of memory?
    (3) I would definitely go for 15.4, the 570M in the 14.1 is seriously compromised, not just interm of RAM size but also bandwidth.
    (4) I'd also get the fingerprint reader, if for coolness only, and the ultrabay slim SATA adapter so that the 80GB HDD is not wasted.

Can you build the system any cheaper using the same parts?

As far as 4GB goes, good point. Maybe I'll just buy 2x2GB from newegg and then put the original 1GB Lenovo memory in my current laptop.

How is that? Isn't it the same system in a smaller package?

    (4) Video memory bus is halved from 128 bit to 64 bit in the 14.1 model, so it's much slower (like 1/3 off at least). In any case I think quadro 140 is more than enough for photoshop/flash, why get a power hungry 570M?

why do you need discrete graphics for photoshop and flash? save battery life and go with integrated graphics and 14.1" screen. also widescreen is brighter.

You should wait for a better sale. There was a 20% off ecoupon in March off the already 25% off sale. That was for the regular site.
