    Hi friends,

I want to buy a laptop but confused which one to buy.I have zeroed in on two models, Lenovo Y510 775844Q And Dell XPS M1530.
    Both are configured as follows:-

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5450 (1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)?
15.4" WXGA VibrantView TFT with integrated camera
    2 GB / 4 GB, DDR2 SDRAM, 667 MHz
    160 GB, Serial ATA
DVD Recordable (Dual Layer), 24X Max
128MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS

Apart from these Lenovo has Integrated TV tuner.
    Both are priced almost equal.
Quality wise which one is better?
Which of these brands is known to stand good in the long run?
As i cant afford ocassional breakdowns and repairs please suggest which one would be a better deal?

The Dell would offer a faster processor and a better graphics card. I am not sure if they've introduced the WSXGA+ screen (or higher res screens for that matter) to the lineup, but if they have you get more screen space to work with. If you game, then go with the M1530.

I would say they would both last for a decent amount of time; I've been hearing reports of good build quality with the XPS. If the Lenovo looks anything like the U110, it'll be a fingerprint magnet - and be incredibly difficult to clean.

I would go with the M1530.

Oh, and welcome to the forums!

I hope that the production models don't come out with a mirror-like finish, it will really be daunting to consumers if they can't see the screen but only themselves lol.

If they are configured the same, how is the Dell better?

If you need a well built notebook I wouldn't suggest either of these notebooks. Something like a ThinkPad from Lenovo or a Latitude from Dell will offer better quality and support. On-Site support where they will send a tech the next business day to fix whatever issue you are having may be worth the added cost.

If you can wait for about a month until a review comes out for the Y510, then you can judge both notebook computer's build and quality. It's really hard to say which computer will last you in the long run. Dell's consumer line isn't known for its quality, but neither is Lenovo's consumer line.

Yeah, the 3000 is pretty mediocre already....

Wait for an Ideapad review before buying one.

Look at a Thinkpad or Latitude.

just an FYI, I work, troublshoot, shipout, service and maintain more lenovo laptops then Dell Laptops.... Meaning, lately lenovo is/has not been too impressive. so, my pick would be Dell. Perferably, i don't like either of them... hhehehhe... especially when it comes to laptops.. i am very picky...

Is your install base mostly Dell or Lenovo? Without that perspective, it's not too helpful. i.e. if you have 10,000 Lenovos and 10,000 Dells, and you see 10:1 more Lenovos, that would be tell-tale.
