I'm looking to replace my beloved but aged and scarred eeepc. My MSI 1651 operates as my primary notebook for gaming and heavier tasks. I just need a durable and portable device for working on the go that has a bit more screen and power than the standard atom netbook. Running Linux well is a big plus.

My number one option is the x120e / e350 from the Lenovo website. Other options are the upgrade to the x220 or just wait until the e450 upgrade hits the American market.

The price for the x120e is obviously a bit steeper than your average netbook but I'm fine with paying the extra money if it is worth it.

So the question, to you wizened veterans, is whether or not you would recommend the x120e to me or point me in some other direction.

if lenovo are still making tough/hardy systems why not buy one 'gently driven'? that's what I just did - used x120e. not expensive.
I don't know yet if I like it well enough to keep for awhile. I'm picky about whatever portable I have being able to do HD video pumped out via HDMI to big screen - in other words, HTPC capability. the e350 needs help to do it but I think I can get there. [i'm a tech for a living, but some things just can't be overcome]. my guess is I'll probably ultimately go for a 13.3 lightweight with long batt life, either sandy or ivy bridge. for now, the smoke for me has not yet cleared sufficiently so I'll work with the x120e for awhile.

Are you located somewhere you can get a x121e or an Edge E120? I was debating between a X220 and a X120e when an Edge E120 popped up on ebay a few months back. I got the edge cheaper than I could find the X120e, so it was an easy decision for me. I REALLY wish lenovo would offer these in the states, they would be a real hit.

I wish I could give you some more guidance on the x120e, but I never found one in person to try.

I just ordered one as the price recently dropped. A thinkpadish e350 for $350--I figured I couldn't do all that much better. It's mostly to replace my atom n270 netbook so I'm sure I'll be pleased.

Where did you get it that cheap?
Is it E350 version or E240?

The e350. My brother's friend hooked me up with an employee purchase account.

I've had an x120e w/ e-350 since march. The machine is okay for basic activities, but it fell short in several areas (including skype/video conferencing). As a result, I have an x220t on the way.
