Specifically, do you prefer the "SoftDome" "SoftTrim" or "FuzzyDome"

I much prefer the fuzzy dome, but it didn't hold up very well, so I'm currently using the soft dome.

I too prefer the fuzzy dome, it seems the most precise. I started with the soft dome, and switched over once I tested them all out in a row

I've only used the fuzzy dome one since that's the one my dad's thinkpad is using, up until now I didn't even know about the other two. I think that one is pretty good.

After trying out all three, I use just the default SoftDome that it came mounted on. While I think that the SoftTrim would be great if your finger is on it all the time, I dont have my finger on the TrackPoint all the time. The FuzzyDome is too small for my tastes.

I voted soft trim though I only use mine to scroll.

I started with the fuzzydome when I got my z61m. It was slow and that suited me as a begginer to get used to the trackpoint. Now I use softtrim as it is higher then the other two and therfor easier to bend and that makes it faster. The fuzzydome became too slow :)

    soft dome

it looks nice with the keyboard....

soft trim great for scrolling for me but harder to use as a mouse.

fuzzydome is too small below keyboard, making it hard to reach

Soft trim here. I like the little indentation, it's just the right size for my middle finger. I find it gives better grip and allows better control.

Can you buy them as spares? I have the "soft dome" on my new T60, but I would be interested in a "fuzzy dome"..

I couldn't start to actually like the Trackpoint until I started using the Soft rim, gives me better speed and precision. Otherwise I would prefer a good touchpad, which regrettably is nowhere to be found on my Z61m.

I wish there were various colors like the aftermarket ones that were available for older Thinkpad series. :(

Are all 3 of the eraser heads included or do you have to get them yourself?
If not, which is the included one? I'm guessing the fuzzydome?

=/ I've never used a trackpoint but I don't know if it's something I want... I think ultimately I just want to keep a bluetooth mouse in my bag. I've never owned a laptop before, though, so I have no idea which I would prefer, but right now I'm kinda dissuaded from buying a thinkpad because of the extra buttons/trackpoint

Untill now I have been using a T20 with a fyzzu dome sometimes. It works fine, but that one has had a ~6? years of abuzing with dirty fingers, so ...

If I will ever get a T61 I will be using either the Soft Trim or the Fuzzydome.

I like the fuzzy dome. It has more traction, so you don't get the feeling that your finger is coming off.

I saw a blue soft dome on a demo Inspiron at RatShack (used for a Sprint aircard). It's EXACTLY the same as the red one. I know that it's heresy to want other colors, but I like having the option.

That would have been a Dell Latitude, the Dell Inspiron doesn't have a pointing stick.

Personally, I like the soft trim and I feel that it is pretty accurate after you get used to it. Of course, I use my trackpoint a lot, so much so that I have worn though a couple of the trackpoints already and I have rubbed the buttons shiny...

Ah, my mistake. Dell's all look alike to me. That's why I prefer ThinkPads. :p

Funny thing to say about a line of notebooks which has barely changed its looks over the years

But I do agree...Dells all sorta just get grouped together in my mind.

I have yet to own a thinkpad myself, so I will have to report back once I get my own to use and try the different types (besides just using others).

I like the fuzzy dome, have used it on my T41 for the last couple of years. It feels more sturdy to me, like the traction, so my finger don't slip off.

fuzzy dome FTW. the others feel too rubbery, slippery and imprecise.
