I am beginning to get extremely frustrated with my Lenovo R61. Daily, there is that insanely annoying squeaking noise coming from the palm rest, that i have tried numerous attempts to fix it. Still no solution. I am on the verge of taking this music box and smashing it!!!!!! The noise is ridiculous, especially from any laptop. My patience is wearing me thin if the noise shall continue. Thanks for hearing me vent. >=0

Shouldn't it be "poor you" for buying a defective used laptop? This would be another story if you bought it brand new from Lenovo.

You should also know your warranty when buying used...

The user bought this laptop in march and it is still under the one year, so is it possible that i can call it in or does the original purchaser have to do it?? and has anyone else been experiencing the squeaking noise from the lower right palm rest?????

The warranty is on the laptop itself. So go ahead and call.

You can look up the warranty status for the laptop online or download the Lenovo System Toolbox (replaces PC doctor) and it will tell you how much warranty you have left.

Also, the warranty follows the machine rather than the buyer. So even if you bought it from somebody else it is still covered by the initial warranty.

You will probably be best served by asking them so ship a replacement palmrest to you. This way you won't be without a laptop for any length of time and the fix is pretty easy to do yourself.

Yes, i have already uninstalled and reinstalled the palm rest. I attempted to fix the problem by stuffing paper between the the roll cage and the palm rest. No help. Then i found out that the squeak comes from underneath the hard drive, so i stuff paper there, when i put everything back, it still continues to squeak!! i swear i might make a music video for this squeaking laptop.

    so, then whats holding you???

i'll be very pleased to hear it on youtube.
maybe, you'll even make to MTV... (wow, big money there)
    :) :) :)

P.S. try to use some soft, thin and heat resistant (at least as resistant as paper is) material maybe, not only plain paper...
