I spilled a little pop near the backspace key on my x61. I removed several keys and cleaned everything up but it still sticks. If I remove the keys and douse the 'spring' with water, it remains 'springy' for about 15 minutes, but then gets sticky again. Any suggestions?

If I were you I'd remove the keyboard and submerge that sucker in some 90%+ Isopropyl alcohol.

I am going to detach it and soak it in soapy water. Bad idea? will the paint come off the keys?

Use a very mild detergent(I would probably use dawn) and don't leave it in there for an extended period of time. A good soak in warm soapy water for about 15 minutes should do the trick followed by a good rinse under running water. DO NOT use the keyboard for ATLEAST a day, assuming you have let it dry on top of a few towels near by a heater or somewhere warm. Don't let it dry in the direct sunlight though as this may cause the keyboard to warp.

Again, do it at your own risk. If you are responsible with it, you're end result will be spectacular.

I cannot wait a day... I have finals to prepare for and a paper to write...

Why would I need to wait a day? It would only take an hour to dry

Problem is, if there is still some water in there and it drips onto your mobo, you might have bigger problems. I'd wait to do any of it until your finals are over. Is it permanently stuck currently, or just sticky?

If there is a little water left on the keyboard, wouldn't the "spill-proof" design just funel the extra drops of water away from components? I'd say just let it dry for an hour or two...

After taking the keyboard out, i realized there are too many electrical components for me to feel safe soaking this in water. I used a syringe filled with soapy water to soak the 'area' that was sticky. After several minutes, I 'blasted' the keys with plain water. Seems to have worked.
