Hi guys. I have given up the idea of getting a T4x laptop, and instead will take my other A31 and upgrade/mod it to a A31p.
I will require some advice and recommendations from you guys. With each component I will put up the current spec of the A31 and what part I will want to upgrade it to and the approx price.
CPU
P4-M 1.6GHz => Keeping this CPU as battery life will be better than if I upgrade to a higher speed P4-M.
Memory
2x256MB DDR-266 => Might upgrade this later on.
LCD
15" 1024x768 => 15" 1600x1200 .
Wondering if this would be possible to run on a Radeon 7500 16Mb? Would I have to replace the motherboard to the A31p motherboard to get the FireGL ??
Video Card
Radeon 7500 16Mb => See LCD section.
Wireless
I want to get a Wireless b/g mpci card. Any ideas??
Harddrive
30Gb 5400rpm => Hitachi 60Gb 7200rpm .
Will this 60gb 7200rpm drive work on the A31? Will the bios recognize it? Any issues with the hdd like in the T4x series?
Optical Drive
8x DVD-ROM => 8x DVD+/-RW Drive 24x CDRW
Thanks for any ideas/suggestions/advice.

Though I suppose it is possible, I can't imagine the parts are going to cost anything less than a new T60. You cannot upgrade the video card without upgrading the motherboard. Then there is the whole issue of whether or not you can make it fit. Laptop parts are highly specialized and germane to each model. It is not at all like a desktop where swaping parts is rather easy. I think I did see Lenovo offering some T42s with SXGA+ screens and the 7500 card a while back. You also cannot just upgrade to a UXGA screen by swapping the screens. You have to replace other parts as well like the inverter. Lenovo is offering a T42 with SXGA+ screen for like $1099 at the moment. eBay is another good option. If you do decide to do it, I wish you the best of luck.
Possible A31 => A31p Conversion?
