So, lately I have been trying to find a laptop to replace my T61.

I narrowed it down to three laptops:
    Asus N80
    Sony Z series
    Thinkpad X200

The Asus has a horrible keyboard and the battery life is only around 3 hours. I need a good keyboard and at least 5 hours of battery life - so that's out.

The Sony looks good, but I hate the fact that it has hybrid graphics with two almost equally bad graphics cards. I hate when manufacturers put in this potentially cool feature and then just use something pathetic like a GF 9300 or HD3470 as the discreet chip. At least give us a GF 9600 or something so the switch between "performance" vs. "battery life" actually is worth it. Plus the sony has the infamous battery drain issue which sounds like it might be annoying. High prices don't help either - so thats out as well.

That leaves me with the X200. I like everything about it - its small, powerful, good battery life, decent vid card (it can decode HD video supposedly)...BUT it has a horrible freaking screen. I would like to have at least 1440x900 and LED backlit.

So my question is...what are the chances that Lenovo will do a refresh of the X200 and add the option of a better LED backlit screen in the next two months?

    Thanks!

What do you define as a good screen? Because the x200s' screen is not great either just brighter and higher resolution.

Look at the x200s then. The 1.86ghz CPU is pretty much powerful enough for most tasks. But don't expect LED to mean much better screen quality...

The chances are very low. I doubt any 12" will ever have LED WXGA+ screen.

Unfortunately the X200s is out of my price range and the CPU may not be good enough for my needs.

What are your needs?? I find the 1.86GHz processor to be fine (I had a x200 before, and now have an x200 Tablet, and don't miss the 540MHz difference).

If you really need 2.4GHz+, then you will have to make a compromise. Either get the x200 with its less than ideal screen, or move up to a 13"+ laptop that offers WXGA+ LED.

I suspect it's very hard to expect Thinkpads to get LCD comparable to Sony in the short run...
