Right now I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 w/15.0" screen (1400x1050) running off a Mobility Radeon 9600. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the LCD display so I can run it at 1600x1200? If so how would I go about doing that and how much would it cost? Thanks in advance.

I think you are just best selling your T42 and buying a UXGA one if that is what you want. I would suggest you look at some before you do so.

I have to disagree. The other model uses a dual-channel LVDS, so would a UXGA. The question is how much you might be willing to shell out on the upgrade (probably ca. 400USD), and if you feel comfortable doing the work yourself. The GPU is also not a problem in this case.

The other thing to consider is you'll have no warranty if you do this even if it is cheaper to just buy the screen.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess it's better if I pick up a newer notebook with a higher resolution screen.

Like Zaz said, if you care about the warranty, screwing around on your machine is probably not the best of ideas.
