Does anyone know if I can call Lenovo and specifically request to configure an X61 without Vista installed? It doesn't seem to be an option on the CTO screens.

I'm going to be wiping the system anyway and installing Linux, and even the T series lets you remove Vista to save 60-90 bucks, so unless there's a specific reason for the X series not to allow this, I don't see why they don't offer this choice.

Also, does the X61 include a built-in microphone?

I'm thinking of getting this configuration for $1215, is it an okay deal? Or should I look elsewhere?

Are you asking for an X61 with no operating system installed? I don't think that is possible.

Looking at the Lenovo US site right now, all the CTO systems have XP Pro as an upgrade option.

I have no personal experience, but it does seem from these forums that more custom options are available if you order by phone vs the web site. I would give them a call.

Not necessarily no operating system, but perhaps SUSE Linux Enterprise 10, as some of the T series do offer.

Although I just checked, and it looks like you can't get Linux preloaded through the regular channels; I'm ordering through an edu connection.
